About GAF - Mount Vernon, Indiana
Mount Vernon, Indiana is located about 20 miles west of Evansville, along the Ohio River. Evansville is the 3rd largest city in Indiana and in 2017 was ranked as one of the most affordable places to live in America! The GAF site in Mount Vernon was founded in 1973 and produces a wide variety of products, including both residential and commercial roofing materials. Our 88 acre site is currently undergoing many exciting changes, including the addition of a new on-site warehouse! There's never been a better time to join our team!
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Production Supervisor, you will have ownership for the safety of your team and quality of the product. You will directly report to the Production Manager of our commercial product line.
Drive productivity and foster continuous improvement through communication of goals, training of operators, and identification and resolution of production related issues.Maximize production efficiencies, achieve targeted raw material usages, and minimize yield losses. Troubleshoot and quickly resolve production method or machinery issues that are impacting run rates, downtime, or quality.
Provide a safe work place through adherence to company safety policy, housekeeping and defined standards of training. Lead production crew safety meetings. Ensure production crew is well trained, involved and committed to meeting production, quality, and safety requirements.
Maintain an excellent quality level of product produced at the lowest cost. Work with production operators to identify and reduce controllable quality issues. Ensure quality checks and checks are completed and review results.
Provide leadership and direction to the production crew on a daily basis. Ensure production operators receive appropriate training for their positions. Participate in the selection and interview process for open positions.Support communication throughout the plant and maintain a union free workplace.
Provide effective employee feedback to employees and address performance and attendance issues in a timely manner. Maintain accurate timekeeping for production employees and ensure time cards are approved on time.
Knowledge and Skills
Skilled in problem identification/resolution
Understanding of basic statistics and use within the operational environment.
Planning and organizational skills including ability to manage multiple priorities
Results oriented, high energy, credible, honest, self-motivated
Excellent communications skills: written, verbal and listening
Coaching skills to include: demonstrating procedures, leading by example and persuading others
Familiarity with Safety activities including root cause investigations, safe behavior observations, team activities, industrial hygiene, and OSHA compliance
High school graduate or equivalent [Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred]
3-5 years of leadership experience in a heavy manufacturing environment
Experience in continuous process industry, preferably web process
Candidate must possess basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word programs and email
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems a plus
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on open grating on elevated surfaces
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing
Must be able to drive a forklift
Must be able to communicate effectively using phones and radios
The Mount Vernon plant schedules are based on business need. Normally, this is 8 hour shifts, rotating from days to evening to nights every 7 days. Candidates must be available to work overtime. Holidays, weekends and other shifts may be required.
