Overview

Senior Research Assistant (Vascular Cell Biology)

Primary Purpose:
To gain mechanistic understanding of cellular and physiological responses to the metabolic environment and metabolic stress

Responsibilities


  • Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and plans experiments under the guidance of the principal investigator and senior laboratory members.

  • Reads primary literature relevant to project

  • Conducts research experiments, maintaining appropriate records of study design and results

  • Evaluates research results, discussing project outcomes with laboratory personnel and reporting findings in manuscripts and grant progress reports

  • Presents at laboratory meetings and participates in journal clubs

  • Coordinates research project with other investigators in laboratory and with collaborators

  • Assists with initial lab set up, general laboratory supply and equipment maintenance

  • Willingness to carry out physiological analysis in mice and assist with maintenance of mouse colony

Qualifications


  • Bachelor or Masters in Biology or Biomedical Sciences

  • Minimum 2 years of experience or equivalent in molecular cell biology (PCR, qPCR, DNA and RNA extraction, immunoblotting, polysome isolation etc.)

  • Familiarity with animal handling and husbandry and maintenance of genetically modified mouse strains
