Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Documentation Transformation Physician Executive will conduct documentation improvement engagements and consulting services for our clients. You will create and deliver Physician to Physician education that includes basic documentation improvement concepts, specialty/diagnoses specific concepts, clinical validity issues, and data driven sessions that support our clients CDI program goals and drive physician engagement.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform tasks related to performance improvement management and associated activities from a clinical perspective such as:  provide physician to physician education, training and engagement in accurate and specific provider documentation and clinical evaluation for healthcare clients; provide training on clinical topics and provider documentation for clinical documentation improvements specialists and coding professionals as necessary; provide training for physician executives and client leadership; review patient medical records (electronic and/or paper) for healthcare clients onsite and/or remotely

  • Develop and maintain the 3M documentation improvement physician to physician training best practices and content library

  • Collaborate with client clinical leadership, to customize training schedule, materials, and methods to ensure the maximum return on investment for each contracted session

  • Collaborate with clients and/or acute care consulting team on clinical validity, denials, query wording, query workflow, patient quality and safety indicators, severity and risk adjustments, public reporting and outcomes measurement

  • Collaborate with the acute care consulting team to serve as a clinical escalation point

  • Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of seven (7) combined years of medical practice in U.S. healthcare system including managing and/or treating patients in an acute care hospital setting within the past five (5) years

  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Experience in a physician advisor role (utilization review, CDI, QA)

  • Currently holds and/or has held state licensure to practice as a medical physician

  • Has experience documenting in electronic health record as a physician

  • Experience with physician documentation requirements to support coding initiatives, quality and outcome initiatives and public reporting

Travel: May include up to 75% domestic
