As the Senior Database Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and mentor other database engineers by conducting training and facilitating knowledge sharing sessions to improve the team’s collective skillset. What you’ll do on a typical day:


  • Help drive the design, development, implementation and expansion of databases utilizing the full MS SQL Server stack and other database technologies

  • Troubleshoot and solve problems; identify root cause of issues and implement measures to correct and prevent future occurrences

  • Collaborate with the product, application development, infrastructure and DBA teams to gather data and reporting requirements, and formulate solutions to service them efficiently

  • Apply the advanced principles of entity relationship model design, good data typing practices, index management, data management and data security

  • Test performance of databases to ensure they are efficient and scalable; tune query execution if necessary to achieve desired system performance

  • Develop ad hoc queries and reports on demand with short turnaround times as determined by business priorities

  • Research and prototype new database features, design and architecture ahead of mainstream development

  • Review database designs, code and test plans of other developers, and provide recommendations for improvement or optimizations

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 8 years of database development experience

  • 8 years of experience in MS SQL, writing T-SQL stored procedures and query tuning on high-transaction systems

  • Experience with software life cycle processes, code reviews and source control platforms (Visual Studio, WCF, JIRA, Confluence)

  • Expert knowledge in RDBMS concepts

  • Deep understanding of data quality, reporting and data analysis techniques

  • Understanding of APIs and modern web architecture
