As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for driving development of applications and solutions to maximize the effective use of available data by users across the business.  This will require a strategic and technical mindset to drive the future of the solutions teams.

  • Define and evolve products (i.e., search, visualize, etc.) through each lifecycle stage - strategic planning, product roadmap, conceptual design and specification, overall product quality, and tactical execution.

  • Ability to learn new information quickly and thoroughly including ability to understand the components of a technical architecture and how they fit together.

  • Lead the engineering team with product direction, communicating requirements and ensuring all product development meets the goals of the project and overall strategic goals.

  • Be hands on within the project team on a day-to-day basis, continually inspecting and shaping the backlog in response to the changing business landscape or technical discoveries.

  • Hands-on technical leader with an ability to work effectively with the development team and manage effectively up, down, and across an organization, including global teams.

  • Advance product development methodology, policies, and governance frameworks to improve and enhance user experience, product and feature prioritization, release predictability, quality, and velocity.

  • Challenge the norm and push the team to forget the easy route and go after the impossible.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelors or above in relevant subject

  • Hadoop/Big Data Experience:

  • 4+ years of administration experience on Big Data Hadoop Ecosystem

  • In-depth knowledge of capacity planning, performance management and troubleshooting for of various Hadoop components.

  • In-depth understanding of Hadoop storage frameworks (HDFS, Hbase etc) and compute frameworks (Spark, MapReduce etc)

  • Familiarity and experience using tools such as, Sqoop, Hive, Impala, SolR

  • Must have experience with monitoring tools used in the Hadoop ecosystem such as Cloudera Manager, Nagios etc.

  • Understanding of various aspects of Hadoop security such as Kerberos, Sentry, LDAP integration tools (SSSD, Centrify, QAS etc), Encryption – TLS/SSL.

  • Cloudera Certified Hadoop Administrator preferred.

  • Cloudera Certified Hadoop Developer would be nice to have.

  • Programming/Development Experience:

  • Experience with at least one of the following programing languages: Java, Scala, C++.

  • Experience with at least one of the following scripting languages: Python, Bash, Perl

  • Familiarity with RDBMS platforms (MySQL, Oracle etc) and SQL is preferred

  • Experience using build tools such as Ant or Maven

  • Experience with software dependency management and open source libraries

  • Familiarity with version control, job scheduling and configuration management tools such as JIRA, Ansible, Github, Jenkins, etc.

Systems Experience:


  • Strong understanding and experience with Linux internals and administration

  • Strong understanding of Linux Filesystem management, Networking and resource management.

  • Experience with Linux security integration solutions such as SSSD, Centrify etc.

  • Experience with software package management (yum, apt-get, rpm etc)

  • Experience with RHEL is preferred

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Understanding of master data management solutions

  • Strong customer-facing communication and careful listening skills. Proven success in and genuine enthusiasm for working directly with customer technical teams.

Details:

The DevOps Engineers will require a deep understanding of the Big Data Ecosystem (HDFS, MapReduce, Pig, Hive, HBase, Kafka, Flume, Solr, Zookeeper, Impala, MongoDB, AtScale, H20.ai, etc.) to work within GSK’s platform team. This position will be responsible for Installing and maintaining the Big Data infrastructure, interact with tool vendors to resolve problems, monitor and troubleshoot problems. The individual will work closely with developers, architects, and end users to implement capabilities based on product roadmap.

• Requires competency in customer focus, change & innovation, strategic thinking, relationship building & influencing, talent management, results focus and inspirational leadership.
• Install and maintain platform level Hadoop infrastructure including the additional tools
• Troubleshooting on Hadoop technologies including HDFS, MapReduce, YARN, Hive, Pig, Flume, HBase, Sqoop, Zookeeper, Spark, Kafka, etc.
• Performance tuning applications and systems for high volume throughput
• Maintain clear documentation to help increase overall team productivity.
• Day-to-day troubleshooting of problems and performance issues in our clusters
• Be part of the On-call Rotation for your areas of responsibility and expertise
• Providing ITIL based Incident, Problem and Change management services for the platform
