Job Description Summary

Lonza is searching for a dynamic Process Scientist/Engineer for our Manufacturing Sciences and Technology Department (MSAT) at our Portsmouth, NH facilities.

Our Process Engineer’s primary responsibility is to be a process owner and primary technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for downstream manufacturing processes with the potential to aid technical transfer activities. 

Some of the responsibilities included for the Process Engineer include:

  • Represents MSAT on project teams as technical subject matter expert (SME) and interface with customer technical and quality representatives.

  • Performs the functions associated with process support;

    • Develop process understanding and expertise

    • Author / review / own, Process Related documentation e.g. Process Description and Batch Records

    • Author / review, change controls; being author includes managing the implementation of the change as the assigned change agent

    • Conduct process trainings to Manufacturing Associates and Production Support departments

    • Monitor and Reporting on process performance (manufacturing data analysis and delivery of data in the form of live presentations)

    • Share 24/7 on-call support while process is being manufactured

  • Performs data analysis such as: statistical process control charting and simple linear regression.

The successful candidate will need to have the following requirements in order to be a top contender for this role:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or Biomedical/Chemical Engineering (Master’s degree with 1-3 years’ previous work experience).

  • Some experience in biotech industry in purification process development and process scale up / manufacturing.  Experience with large-scale manufacturing support (mammalian preferred), current Good Manufacturing Practices, US / EU regulations.

  • Knowledge of cell biology, protein structure, scale-up, chromatography, UF/DF, virus filtration and statistical data analysis.

  • Previous experience in Customer Support highly desired.
