Primary Role

Responsible for preparation of standards, reagents, and samples (digestions, extractions) and conduct basic chemical analyses.

Key Accountabilities

  • Prepare samples for analysis within method required holding times.

  • Conduct basic chemical analysis such as turbidity, wet chemistry methods, and UV254. General upkeep of the laboratory environment, including maintaining glassware, reagent preparation.(50%)

  • Understand and follow all QA/QC protocols to assist the laboratory in meeting EPA and accrediting authority standards. (20%)

  • Cultivate relationships with internal customers. Work to promptly inform both internal and external customers of sample issues.

  • Communicate with chemists to ensure all necessary re-extracts occur in a timely manner to meet laboratory turn-around-times. (15%)

  • Promote a positive team environment to enhance performance and safety in the laboratory. Cross train in other areas to meet developmental goals. (10%)

  • Assist in maintaining and stocking laboratory supplies within budget. (5%)

Knowledge / Skills

  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory techniques

  • Knowledge of QA/QC programs

  • Familiar with EPA, NELAC, and OSHA rules and regulations.

Experience / Education


  • One year of lab experience preferred.


  • Associates Degree in science related field required.

  • Technical training equivalent or additional relevant experience may be substituted for Associates Degree.

Work Environment

  • Primarily an indoor laboratory environment. Laboratory work will require periods of standing while performing bench top work, working with lab instruments and sitting for computer entry.

  • Some lifting necessary.

  • Some outside work necessary in all weather.

Travel Requirements

  • Partial travel to local water treatment facilities 

Shift Structure

  • Part-time

  • Approximately 20 hours per week 

  • Monday - Friday, 8AM to 12PM preferred but can be flexible
