DRS Company

DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS) a multi-site operation responsible for $350 million of revenue with locations in Milwaukee, WI, Bridgeport/Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and High Ridge, MO with an employee base of approximately 900 employees. Position Summary

Electro-Mechanical Engineering technician to support the transition from initial design and development of power conversion and power distribution equipment to production build readiness.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs electromechanical assembly, disassembly and rework of various electronic products and mechanical assemblies including first article builds

  • Reads and interprets electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications

  • Wires large, complex first article cabinets, control panels, & other electro-mechanical assemblies

  • Uses basic problem solving skills to evolve designs and documentation from development stage to production readiness

  • Imparts technical knowledge and experience to production assembly personnel and collaborates with engineering

  • Train and/or assist production assembly personnel as required

  • Ability to work independently and to prioritize next tasks

  • Correctly generate detailed assembly records documenting actions taken

  • Visually inspect work previously performed by others

  • Ability to use and select proper support tools (DMM, torque wrenches, solder iron, etc.)

  • Interact directly with engineers and assemblers on technical matters and function as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Use basic problem solving skills to work independently, including making part selections and modifying or selecting assembly methods

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the skills and tasks listed below:

  • Reading blueprints, bus bar fabricatin and assembly, plumbing, crimping/lugging, documentation and record-keeping, interpreting and revising manufacturing documents and work instructions, ESD, solder sleeves, torque tools, wire harness assemblies, wiring and wire ratings

  • Other duties per business needs including but not limited to:  Solder qualification, forklift operation, fiber optic handling, crane qualification, Field Service, and lab related tasks


Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Ability to direct the efforts of an assembly team in the assembly of major equipment, special products or field installation.

  • Proficient personal computer skills including e-mail, record keeping, routine word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.

  • US citizen and meet DRS security standards as imposed by DoD, including the issuance of any necessary security clearance by the US government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment


Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  • 3-5 years of experience in assembly, repair, rework of complex assemblies

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or 5 years of manufacturing or test related experience.

  • Experience with 2D or 3D model files and ability to use them to build and repair assemblies


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee requires normal manual dexterity, speech and hearing. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job require frequent use of a computer monitor.
