ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATIONS at University of Oklahoma

Job Description:

Works with the Director of Development Communications to produce materials that support the university's efforts to cultivate and solicit gifts and provide stewardship to the university's donors.


*** Examples of Work can be fundraising writing would be ideal but we would also accept
persuasive writing, grant writing or acknowledgement writing samples.*** 

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or related field AND:

  • 24-36 months experience in communications, including but not limited to writing, editing, researching, content development 


Skills:


  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English

  • Ability to organize and present often complex information in accurate, concise, compelling written materials

  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions

  • Detail-oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Strategic thinking and critical analysis

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and adhere to deadlines

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Ability to supervise a small team or student interns

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to produce reports and complete work deadlines

  • Proficient in copy writing, editing, proofreading and composition

  • Professional writing, public relations or copy-editing

  • None

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions, communicate, hear and see including color, depth perception and clarity.

Departmental Preferences:


  • Experience in published writing preferred

  • Awareness of industry standards and best practices 

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

  • Knowledge of the history, mission and activities of the University of Oklahoma

  • Experience in graphic design, social media, print and electronic communications strategy

  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies.
