In this role you will serve as Health Policy Liaison with assigned customer(s) - Value Assessment Organizations (VAO) and related medical policy agencies (i.e., PCORI, ISPOR, AMCP, ICER, GPC-USA).

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career.  These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Develop and execute a Scientific Engagement Plan for prioritized customers in support of US Public Policy strategy, gain and maintain a high level of understanding of regulatory environment and associated evidence needs.

  • Identify opportunities for medical engagement that support agency-specific goals aligned with US Public Policy strategy.  Maintain GSK’s strong leadership in the US Value Assessment environment and enhance the external visibility of GSK’s Value Assessment principles and policy positions.

  • Serve as an external medical policy scientific resource and work on partnership opportunities that pairs key external stakeholder needs with available GSK resources (Medical Affairs, R&D, Commercial, etc).

  • Engage a defined set of customers, when appropriate, in discussions related to collaborative medical policy activities in the development and submission of concepts to GSK senior executives for consideration.

  • Partner with Medical Information to understand available resources and where appropriate to develop new resources, identify the need for customer materials, and create custom responses to unsolicited requests. Contribute to the development of medical, medical policy and health outcomes information responses for medical policy customers.

  • Understand the strategy and the influences of Federal and State government and related medical policy organizations on GSK and the patient populations served through its therapies and medical-related activities.

  • Develop and lead internal stakeholder team to pull through VAO engagement and internal readiness strategy.  This includes (1) identifying high priority VAOs for direct and indirect engagement, (2) shaping VAO methods and process, (3) ensuring robust responses to value assessments of new product approvals, and (4) aligning R&D (global and US) on key value issues.

 Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Pharm D, PhD, M.P.H., M.S. or equivalent education

  • 3-5 years experience working with US Policy with at least year field-level customer engagement; OR 1 year of US Policy experience with at least 3+ years of experience in field-level customer engagement

  • 3-5 years extensive and relevant scientific experience in a health policy, pharmaceutical or managed care setting

  • Access to major US airport, for easy access and routine travel to assigned customers; HHS position requires close proximity or easy access to Washington DC area

  • Experience and knowledge about drug value assessment in the US

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience and knowledge of federal and/or state government agencies and direct experience in a health policy/ public payer environment is strongly desired.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously and independently with time management skills in order to effectively manage field-based responsibilities.

  • Proven ability to work across a commercial and medical matrix team.

  • Proven ability to communicate internally at an executive level in order to gain alignment with strategy.

  • Strong communication and strategic skills; demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for medical engagement and develop a set of strategic scientific engagement goals.

  • Clear understanding of health services research / observational research methodologies and a demonstrated ability to translate real-world evidence, CER, and other observational research studies in an effective credible manner. Able to independently evaluate the scientific literature regarding health policy and observational research and health economics.

  • Experience operating in a highly dynamic, changing environment.

  • Ability to maintain a command of a large amount of scientific information across multiple therapeutic areas and show effective written/verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong trusted relationships, with key policy decision makers.

  • Demonstrated customer-focus, problem solving abilities and strong conflict resolution skills.

  • Experience influencing internal research teams and communicating medical policy makers’ priorities and needs.
