Job Purpose:

The Scientist will lead low to medium complexity product development initiatives, from design through the end of the new product development process for Europe, CIS and Turkey.  The Scientist is responsible to effectively scale-up, troubleshoot, and document critical specifications while identifying opportunities for competitive advantage and intellectual property.  The Scientist proactively works with Marketing, Supply Chain, Business Activity Management and other key partners to drive innovation projects for Europe, CIS and Turkey gum & mints brands

Key Responsibilities:


  • Leads assigned growth projects from Development Brief to Implementation and Launch (QuEST), including technical feasibility assessment, effectively translate relevant consumer insights and holistic consumer experience design briefs into product options, prototyping, scientific experiments/DOE, leads/partners with technical services team on scale-up, troubleshoot, robust action plans, risk assessment, contingency planning, and document critical specifications while identifying opportunities for competitive advantage and intellectual property

  • Provides technical assistance to PPTS, IE and Site Quality as needed for successful scale-up and launch, working with outside consultants, suppliers and testing laboratories as needed

  • Effectively communicate and document research protocols and conclusions for peer understanding, while proactively managing regulatory and intellectual property guidelines

  • Builds upon project management and technical development skill through project experience, training, and mentoring.  Responsible for review of progress and development strategies with manager and subject matter experts

  • Connects and leverages global product development team in other regions, Sensory, Science and Technology, to deliver productivity, sustainability and product performance initiatives.  Accelerates deployment of new projects

  • Ensures compliance to internal and external policies, quality standards, and legal requirements

  • Accountable for driving regional new product development projects.  Decision making authority will reside within the design, development and implementation of new products 

  • Impacts quality of own work and the work of others both within the team and cross-functionally

  • Builds knowledge of the company, processes and customers

  • Collaborates with the global, other regions, and cross-functional partners to accomplish business objectives

  • Receives a moderate level of guidance or direction

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science required in a technical area including; Engineering, Chemistry, Food Science

  • 3+ years in R&D

  • Strong technical knowledge of ingredient functionalities, formulation and process development

  • Demonstrated ability to lead low to medium complexity initiatives, particularly across various markets and effectively bring others along

  • Demonstrated leadership and team collaboration competencies, with strong organization and problem solving skill

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, self-directed, forward thinking, and ability to make recommendations with limited information/data

  • Willing to travel internationally (Europe and Russia) up to 20% of time

Preferred Requirements:


  • Advanced degree in chemistry, food science, chemical engineering or related field

  • Ability to translate consumer insights into tangible offering/prototypes
