Under the direction of Process Development management, the Associate Engineer will perform experiments (hands-on) to develop, scale-up, and improve the performance of unit operations. The Assoc. Eng. will apply technical training to assess risks, solve problems, and analyze data sets coming from experiments and present results.
Associate Engineer II(s) responsibilities may include:
Preparation of solutions and media as needed
Perform static and dynamic cell culture in single use flasks and bioreactors, virus handling and propagation, cell disruption, clarification microfiltration, TFF, chromatography
Tubing assembly preparation, autoclaving, parts washing, material / reagent inventory
Execute development studies, collect and analyze data, ensure documentation meets good documentation practices
Present experimental results clearly in meetings and in written development reports
Write and revise operating procedures, protocols, and other documents as required
Troubleshoot and support investigations, CAPAs, and change controls as needed
Maintain qualifications for site training requirements and demonstrate quality and safety for all operational activities.
Developing work practices that result in improved efficiency within the department and company.
Determining methods and procedures on new moderately complex assignments and implementing them after obtaining necessary stakeholder approvals.

Education, Experience & Skills
Bachelors Degree Engineering required; EIT certificate and / or 1-2 years related bioprocess experience required, depending on the area of assignment
BS in Chemistry, Biology or related field and/or a minimum 3-5 years related industrial experience
Computer skills including fluency in office and data analysis / presentation applications, understanding of automated controls
Possesses strong interpersonal, time management, and hands-on laboratory skills
Demonstrates understanding and has some experience in culture of cells, purification of biological products
Demonstrates success in commitment, creativity, and collaboration with others.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Type/keyboard, visual acuity, good eye/hand coordination, stand, walk, sit, twist/turn, climb, reach outward, reach above shoulder, hand dexterity, bend, squat/kneel, sense of feel, sense of hearing, lift/carry 30lbs, pull 30lbs. Use phone, copier/scanner, computer. Use hand tools. Organize/coordinate, analyze/interpret, calibrate precise measurements, problem solve, plan, communicate, and prepare written communications. Work around noise above conversation level, with restricted access to laboratory, with exposure to strong odors.
