Positions in this function define, analyze, perform due diligence, negotiate and implement external relationships such as partnerships, joint ventures and alliances, and perform special projects at the direction of OptumCare executive management. This function will work with executive and senior business segment leadership on all phases of process to implement growth oriented initiatives. Positions will work collaboratively with executive and senior business segment management and support functions to (1) define relationship objectives and actionable initiatives, (2) prepare financial and economic analyses, (3) identify pros, cons and other strategic considerations, (4) structure collaboration from legal, tax, accounting and economic standpoint, (5) perform due diligence, (6) negotiate definitive agreements, (7) monitor competitive actions and responses, (8) define and drive enterprise initiatives and programs, and, (9) advance specific value creating initiatives. Positions will provide executive management with confidence that material strategic initiatives are rigorously assessed and appropriately structured to achieve acceptable financial returns and risk.

The Associate, Business Development is an emerging leader with significant experience in financial modeling and financial analysis. This person is a creative, strategic thinker who applies broader concepts and historical context to today's challenges. The Associate, Business Development is an integral member of the team responsible for supporting leadership, strategic direction and decision making rigor to growth initiatives. This person must earn the trust of OptumCare Finance Special Projects Team and enterprise leaders and will act as a point of contact on disciplined processes to evaluate growth related opportunities.

The Associate, Business Development will conduct high-level research and develop financial models and complex analyses to support executive decision making. This individual will participate in the management of specific enterprise-wide relationships. In addition, the Associate, Business Development will support large teams of functional experts in the performance of due diligence to evaluate and assess opportunities.

The Associate, Business Development will coordinate several assignments simultaneously and may have the opportunity to provide mentoring and guidance to junior team members in a collaborative environment.
As a key member of our fast-paced OptumCare Finance Special Projects Team, this position would put you at the forefront of significant growth initiatives, providing extensive exposure to executive and senior leadership throughout our organization and an opportunity to transform health care.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-level research and assessments using publicly available resources such as research reports, SEC filings, industry information, etc.
  • Analyze industry trends, competitive threats and expansion opportunities
  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop and maintain long-term financial models that lay the foundation for growth
  • Prepare insightful, concise financial summaries for executive-level decision-making that clearly articulate key drivers and recommended action plans.
  • Work with OptumCare executives and senior business segment leadership to develop strategic rationale and initiatives to advance external growth
  • Support large cross-functional teams working on complex growth-related strategic initiatives
  • Participate in the planning, design, development and implementation of major business initiatives
  • Act as expert point of contact for senior leaders related to our disciplined process to evaluate growth related opportunities
  • Maintain effective communications with all levels of management that foster a collaborative atmosphere


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within investment banking, strategy consulting, or transaction advisory services
  • BS/BA degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Mathematics (with strong academic track record)
  • Strong Excel, financial modeling and financial statement analysis skills
  • Demonstrated advancement or promotion, reflecting creativity, initiative, and superior performance
  • Strong planning, organization, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to manage and prioritize multiple projects to ensure their quality and on-time delivery
  • Effective communications skills and proven team commitment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and build effective business partnerships at senior levels
  • High energy, detail oriented and creative individual


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MBA, Masters degree)
  • CFA and/or CPA designation
  • Healthcare industry knowledge
