We are looking for a talented and experienced 3D Animator who wants to make an impact in the medical space. With over 35 years of experience in the orthopedic industry, Arthrex is dedicated to providing safe and reproducible solutions for health care professionals. We are seeking an experienced 3D animator who will build animations to viewed by thousands of users worldwide.
Our 3D medical animations teach surgeons the proper use of Arthrex products as applied to sports medicine and minimally invasive orthopedic surgery. These animations explain step-by step surgical procedures to repair joint injuries, which are then repurposed for patient animations and a virtual surgery app. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years’ experience in all stages of the animation process and with a solid understanding of Autodesk 3D Studio Max and After Effects.

Main Objective: Takes a lead role in the 3D animation and visualization production process, from conception to delivery, to create high quality medical device animations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assumes leadership in all phases of the medical visualization production process including 3D modeling, surfacing, lighting, rendering, delivery and archive, with emphasis on 3D animation.
Designs and creates engaging 3D animations including high-res 3D models of human anatomy and surgical equipment.
Reviews animation and visualization projects to determine the type and number of physical and 3D assets required.
Examines surgical videos, still and stock footage as required.
Observes surgical demonstrations including cadaver dissections.
Coordinates with Department Managers, Marketing Team Leaders and Product Managers to produce CG Animation and Imagery.
Develops and utilizes storyboards in pre-production
Actively researches and test new digital tools to implement into animation team workflow.
Helps to implement new hardware and software used by the animation team.
Assists in technical support for the animation team’s digital tools including render farm management and both hardware and software troubleshooting.
Mentors junior animators.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s Degree in Biomedical Visualization or Certified Medical Illustrator with comparable 3D animation experience preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in 3D Animation or Medical Visualization production is required.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
Expert knowledge of 3D Studio Max, including key-frame animation, polygon and spline modeling, soft-body deformations, spline deformations, UV surfacing, lighting, textures and Vray rendering.
Proficient in modeling, rendering, and animation.
Solid understanding of lighting, particle systems, render passes, and compositing.
Knowledge of film, video and photography principles.
ZBrush experience required.
Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to produce quality work in a deadline driven environment.
Ability to multi-task and willingness to collaborate.
Must be self-motivated with strong problem solving capabilities and able to work with minimum supervision.
Must be open to critical review and able to embrace change.
Attention to detail.
Medical/biological and anatomical knowledge about the workings of the human body is required.
Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
Windows OS, laser scanner, still digital camera, and video camera experience preferred.
