The Manager for Research and Development/Emerging Technologies develops or manages strategic programs for UPS. These programs include the areas of Facility Designs of the Future, Robotics/Automation projects, AGVs/AGCs for autonomous solutions, Research and Development for software and hardware solutions, and AI/Machine Learning solutions and systems to improve our current and future state. He/She will have an exciting role to help shape and direct the future of UPS from an end-to-end perspective.
The Manager for Research and Development/Emerging Technologies works cross-functionally with various stakeholders, to help build the strategy for the future of UPS. Programs that will be managed for the strategy will be communicated up to the level of our CIO. Executive summaries of the state of the programs will be communicated as we build new Green Field facilities, concept robotic solutions, and build on the areas of AI/ML to best use the data that is available to us today.
Responsibilities and Duties
Manages various strategic programs for UPS, tracking details as the Program Manager in our UPS reporting tool
Identifies or develops new solutions, products, or practices for UPS (Protocols, Platforms, Standards and Strategies)
Manages projects working with a vendor to ensure that the given solution(s) align with the needs of UPS
Identifies/implements KETs (Key Enabling Technologies) that will improve processes at UPS
Knowledge and Skills
Project Management: Develops project management plans and leads the implementation from a strategy perspective
Project Planning: Develops and executes project management plans the various strategic programs
Vendor/Supplier Management: Identify and recommend vendors or solutions that will allow UPS to progress technology
Robotics/Automation: Identify and develop a program around robotics and automation, cross-functional efforts required
Experience in Logistics Robots, Material Handling Systems, System Integration, System Optimization/Flow Control
Bachelor's Degree (or internationally comparable degree) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, Computer Science, or Robotics - Preferred
