This position is a term position, meaning regular full-time for 12 months.



Position Purpose

To assist with research and operation of the van der Meer and Taube laboratories, which study the neural basis of spatial orientation and decision-making in rodents.

This position is a 12-month term position.

This position is funded by a grant. Continuation is based upon available funds.

Research/Experiments

  • Works well independently with the primary goal of setting up equipment and running experiments.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental design; methods, procedures, and techniques; or equipment and facilities.
  • Adheres to laboratory safety requirements including general and chemical/hazardous waste safety disposal methods.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate laboratory records.
  • Construction and preparation of miniaturized devices for neural recording and imaging.
  • Assists in surgical procedures.

Laboratory Management

  • Maintain rat and mouse colonies including mating, weaning, and genotyping, while keeping careful records.
  • Orders and maintains stock of laboratory supplies.
  • Monitors equipment and instrument performance; obtains necessary maintenance and repair.
  • Instructs others in laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required.
