Job Description:
Overview Peraton is seeking a mid-level Lab Manager to join our team in Greenbelt, Maryland to support our Space Communication Network Services contract in the at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center . As prime contractor on the Space Communications Network Services (SCNS) contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment and systems engineering of NASA's worldwide satellite communication networks. The selected candidate will work for a dynamic, team-based development environment for the NASA Space Network, supporting the Networks operations and test and integration of electronic and electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities What you'll do...

  • Provide a variety of operational, maintenance and administrative support services of an engineering and testing facility for multiple NASA Space Network engineering projects.
  • Coordinates and manages operational activities in a communication engineering laboratory, providing variety of support services to engineers, researchers, customers, and technicians.
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of the laboratory, and compliance with federal and state regulations and standards.
  • Provide support and assistance related to facilities and equipment issues and repairs.
  • Maintains the lab/facilities and keeps working areas orderly and clean.
  • Coordinates the procurement, inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab-ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab.
  • Ensures configuration management of all lab equipment.
  • Arranges for periodic calibration of standard test equipment to ensure that all equipment is in specification.
  • Manages and maintains the lab resources and is responsible for creating and maintaining the lab schedule of activities.
  • Leads the lab development, upgrades, and implementation activities.
  • Limited staff supervision; provides guidance to junior engineers or technicians.
  • Responsible for safety training and compliance.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for ground systems hardware, software, and firmware.
  • Provide for the implementation, integration, test, and transfer into operations of hardware and software systems for network services, missions and projects.
  • Provides hardware maintenance services which may include re-installation and modification of existing equipment.

You'd be a great fit if you have...
  • An Associate's degree and 8 years of related experience. In lieu of formal education, 3 years of additional related experience is allowable.
  • 4+ years of experience with engineering projects for Government and/or NASA and have general understanding of the satellite ground communication system hardware and software.
  • 4+ years of hand-on experiences in an engineering testing or developing facility and familiar with the system installation, integration and testing process.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • US Citizenship (required)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance. To obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship

  • Knowledge of and responsibility for complex communication systems in an engineering and testing lab environment.
  • Managerial skills to manage a team of engineers and technicians to support NASA Space Network development projects.
  • Experience with network management systems (IP based networking systems)
  • Proactively address lab needs and manage multiple priorities.
  • Independent judgment and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows system build, configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical individuals.
  • Experience with MS Project and SharePoint, and Visio.
  • Prior experience with projects involving NASA systems interfaces.
  • Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
