HII – Mission Driven Innovative Solutions Inc. (HII-MDIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.
HII - MDIS is currently seeking a Software Architect to work at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Information Directorate in Rome, NY.
Their role will be to define and evolve a reference architecture for the Air Force Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) initiative. The SCARS initiative, managed by the Air Force Simulator Program Office (AFLCMC/WNS) is meant to apply current and emerging cloud processing technologies to simulation devices to enhance capabilities, improve life cycle support, and improve the cybersecurity posture of the Air Force training enterprise.
Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not be limited to the following):
High level design of reference architecture; major components and boundaries (interfaces and standards).
Design SCARS SAAS, PAAS components to support SCARS Reference Architecture based upon technical/engineering documentation from simulators and FACE architecture, and other relevant data sources.
Identify and/or design other required services and design patterns; authentication, basic networking services (DNS, zones, NTP).
Design components that can be implemented by the Software Developer.
Make recommendation for authentication and authorization.
Participate in studies and pilot projects. Identify tradeoffs and decision points.
Design and implement a cloud-based development environment to facilitate (Industry and Government) enterprise-wide collaboration to move the SCARS initiative forward.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
15 years of experience in software architectures relating to real-time systems, simulation, modular/open architectures, networking, operating systems, hypervisors, containers, and cloud computing technologies. Understanding of security controls defined in the NIST Risk Management Framework.
Experience with Agile software development methodologies and tools including DevOps.
Background in flight simulation system and software development
Experience in MBSE and SysML
MS or PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
All candidates will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance.
