Job Description:

Position Summary:

Provides technical direction and leadership to work crew and performs structural/pipe welding of metal components for fabrication or repair of machine parts, plant equipment and structures according to layout, blueprints or work orders using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment as well as performs welding of pipe, flanges and various fittings for fabrication or repair of machine parts, plant equipment and structures according to layout, blueprints or work orders using various welding processes.

Essential Job Functions:

* Supervises and/or directs work crew. Provides team leadership in accordance with Team Leader expectations. Acts as mentor to team members. Visits all areas of responsibility and job sites daily. Examines work and materials for compliance with specifications. Reviews and organizes maintenance activities for efficiency and validity. Manages daily schedule and attends related meetings. Accountable for safe work practices, toolbox meetings, and safety training compliance. Serves as single point of contact for work crew and coordinates maintenance activities with other crafts. Records and/or reports daily labor hours to timekeeper. Monitors expenditures.

* Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts, according to blueprints, specifications and knowledge of welding and metallurgy.

* Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

* Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding. Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece.

* Constructs, maintains and modifies piping systems and process equipment related to petrochemical or other industry by welding of pipe, flanges and various fittings using applicable welding techniques and processes required to produces welds that meet applicable codes and client requirements.

* Measures pipe routing and draft pipe configuration.

* Perform repair, prep, grinding and re-weld procedures on pipe to meet proper welding codes.

* Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment.

* Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.

* Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.

* Routinely performs safety and productivity observations, shop, field, and vehicle inspections, and is required to attend various components of technical, developmental and safety training.

* Must demonstrate support for the company's environmental management system

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* Knowledge of the AWS, ANSI and ASME codes.

* Knowledge of operation of welding equipment, beveling machines, electrodes, fluxes, shielding gasses and welding processes.

* Knowledge of the various size and grades of welding electrodes, the proper use of electrodes and welding processes, the appearance of a proper fit-up and the appearance of properly cleaned and prepared surface.

* Ability to properly use and care for the tools and equipment and welding electrodes commonly used on an industrial project.

* Ability to read, understand engineering prints.

* Must be well versed in welding procedures, operations and safety practices and policies

* Must be computer literate

* Must be able to work as part of a team, communicate effectively with fellow workers and alternate, and demonstrate commitment to established safety policies and procedures

* Must possess the knowledge, ability and skills to supervise or direct other craftsmen

* Journeyman level experience required for craft supervised

* Must be well versed in welding procedures, operations and safety practices and policies

* Must be computer literate

* Must be able to work as part of a team, communicate effectively with fellow workers and alternate, and demonstrate commitment to established safety policies and procedures

Physical Demand/Work Environment:

* Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.

* Lift 40 lbs from floor to knuckles x 2 with a 12 second interval,

* Lift 40 lbs from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval,

* Lift 40 lbs from floor to shoulders x 2 with a 12 second interval,

* Carry 40 lbs with two hands for 20 feet on level surface x 2 for a total of 40 feet(Allow a 60 second rest break between 20 carry tests.),

* Slanted ladder: Climb up and down 12 rungs x 2 for a total of 24 rungs. Self-paced but continuous,

* Stairs: Climb up and down 15 steps x 5 for a total of 75 steps. Self-paced. (Allow a 60 second rest break after every set of climbing up and down 30 steps.),

* Push horizontally with a peak isometric force of 50 lbs.

* Repetitive Kneel Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 5 each knee,

* Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 5, self-paced, but continuous

* Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5,

* Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively.

* Journeyman level experience required for craft supervised

* Three (3) years experience in structural/pipe welding and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required

* Previous lead or supervisory experience of a sustained, average crew size of three or more people under his or her direct supervision required

* Valid drivers license including ability to be insured by Worleys auto insurer required

* Five (5) years petrochemical, oilfield or arctic experience preferred
