The College of Public Health (CPH) at Temple University is one of the largest colleges of its kind in the country, consisting of the departments of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Services Administration and Policy, Kinesiology, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the School of Social Work.
The Sr. Academic Advisor in the School of Social Work will provide guidance to graduate students in the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree program. The Sr. Academic Advisor is responsible for preparing, assessing and maintaining records of student progress and advancement toward degree completion. Specific responsibilities include: meeting with students to discuss academic and professional goals and referring them to additional resources as necessary. This includes answering questions regarding MSW program requirements, registration, education in field work settings, change in educational plans, petitions for grievances and grade concerns, academic progress and MSW program, School, College, and University policies, helping to acquire professional references and records access in conjunction with student inquiries, assisting with graduation reviews and clearances, responding to academic administration and faculty requests for assistance with student related matters, preparing assessment reports, maintaining student related records files and databases, reviewing, approving and processing curriculum related actions with appropriate reviews and approvals, interacting with other academic units in conjunction with joint programs, scheduling and coordinating events and trainings, and providing input into academic units planning efforts. The Sr. Academic Advisor will perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree in social work or related field and four or more years of relevant experience. At least 3 years advising experience in a higher education academic setting. Demonstrated leadership/project management experience. Training design and/or delivery exposure. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to travel between University campuses as needed.
*Ability to work some evening and Saturday hours as needed.
*Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse cultures.
*Ability to operate all standard office equipment and software including MS Office.
*Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
*Ability to work both individually and in teams.
*Experience advising graduate students, including online students, in Social Work or related fields.
*Recruitment and guidance of graduate students in the application process for MSW degrees.
*Technical abilities including BANNER, Microsoft Office, and other technology associated with internet communication, social networking, and web based information.
