A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • In this exciting role as a Chemist I you will have the responsibility of testing

  • products, materials and substances for compliance to product specifications,

  • standards and requirements in a laboratory setting.

  • Assist in QC Laboratory testing, prepare and maintain testing records and summaries.

  • Direct involvement with Technician trainings.

  • Prepare and test samples from all phases of a manufacturing or other handling process, with the goal of determining if the substance meets the standards and requirements.

  • Employ a variety of methods that can vary from industry to industry but generally require basic lab-work skills and thorough understanding of chemical testing equipment and processes.

  • Prepare documents that report the results of their lab work. They may also be responsible for minor equipment troubleshooting and repair.

  • Direct role in preserving workplace safety and safe materials handling as appropriate, since they sometimes work with hazardous materials.

  • Conducts exploratory research to produce new knowledge and potential products; conceives, organizes, promotes, and executes ideas and plans to increase chemistry's role in and contribution to the discovery and chemical approaches to meet exploratory objectives in product discovery.

  • Develops research proposals to provide a technically and economically sound basis for developing and evaluating new or improved products, synthetic methods, processes, and analytical and physical testing techniques.

  • Recommends utilization of the results or changes in the scope of work or termination of projects.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or in a Science or technical field with 0+ years of experience as a Chemist.

Nice to Have

  • Familiar with BPCS (ERP System), and Agile.

  • Understands own GBU products and has a more complete understanding of at least one related technical area.

  • Basic understanding of technical principles, theories, and techniques.

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and computer software skills

  • Ability to compile and organize technical data using Excel, Word, or Access.

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents, re-agents, chemicals and materials.

  • Strong knowledge of chemistry, mathematics and computers.
