Job Description:

Position Purpose

As a member of the extended reliability team within Cargill - Starches Sweeteners North America (SSNA), the Automation, Electrical, and Instrumentation (AEI) Specialist II – Site Automation Supervisor interacts with internal and external centers of expertise to ensure reliability centered maintenance and engineering principles are utilized within the site and departments. This position is responsible for leading the Automation team in the execution of automation solutions in support of department requests, productivity improvements, energy savings, Management of Change, maintenance and capital projects primarily at the local site, but can also at times be utilized at other CSSTNA sites and will work as part of a centrally focused team implementing projects based on corporate defined best practice standards and guidelines. Provide design expertise in the areas of automation and controls for initiatives and projects based on current best practices using approved components and standards. Must be fluent in the functional areas of Automation and Controls. Provide expertise and/or support for internal and external resources during the execution of projects.

Principal Accountabilities

40% Lead and manage execution of automation solutions used for controlling plant process through automation employees and contract labor. Will involve design and configuration of control systems and oversight of electrical and instrumentation functions related to capital projects and maintenance work. Responsible for business and maintenance metrics for automation systems. Will be required to obtain knowledge of plant processes.

25% Design, lead and implement control strategies based on current best practice standards and approved components from CSST Group and NA region. Provide training for completed capital projects and new technologies or control strategies.

20% Work with Operations, Maintenance & Reliability teams to identify areas in need of improvement and reliability. Provide troubleshooting expertise to stakeholders.

Develop and coach automation employees and contract labor responsible for capital projects and maintenance work on AEI systems in a manner that leads to engaged employees through effective performace management, career development and resource planning for the site.

5% Other tasks or other duties as assigned

Minimum Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technical discipline OR Associates Technical Degree plus 3 years of Automation experience OR 5 years Automation experience in lieu of degree
• Ability to configure and program a variety of control systems including DCS – i.e. Emerson Delta V, Novatech D3; PLCs – Modicon, Allen Bradley and HMI systems.
• Ability to update and troubleshoot a range Automation Systems: Data Historian OSI PI; Network Communications – i.e. Modicon S908, Ethernet, Modbus+, ModbusTCP, Profibus, DeviceNET.
• Working experience in Design, implementation and troubleshooting of interlocks, permissives, forced setpoints, sequencing and control strategies.
• Working experience in Design, implementation and troubleshooting of plant automation, low voltage electrical and instrumentation technologies.
• Ability to read and update P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, user required specifications, functional design specificatons.
• Understanding of continuous and batch process control strategies.
• Understanding of motor control circuits and ability to troubleshoot.
• Microsoft Office Suite experience
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

• Certified Automation Professional (CAP) Certification through Instrument Society of America (ISA).
• 3 plus years of supervisory experience
• Knowledge of reliability centered maintenance, planning and scheduling.
• Knowledge of predictive technologies: Motor Circuit Evaluation (MCE), vibration, infrared, ultrasound, and machinery lubrication.
• Experience with Corn Milling equipment and an understanding of continuous and batch processes.
• Instrument experience (Temperature, Flow, pH, O2, Pressure, control valves)
• Electrical experience (Electrical Distribution Equipment (up to 34.5kV) operation, transformers breakers, motor controls, UPS, maintenance and testing techniques (NETA))
• Understanding of National Electric Code, IEC standards and ISA standards
• Design and implementation knowledge of plant digital business technologies
