Job Description:

Four Oaks is currently hiring full-time and part-time Youth Counselors.  As a YOUTH COUNSELOR you will be responsible for: assessing client interactions on location, formulating interventions based on the identified treatment plan, evaluating the progress of treatment goals, providing direct care services on assigned unit(s), completing documentation as assigned, supporting the agency mission as well as program mission and values, practicing safe and responsible work habits.

Responsibilities:


  • Provides consistent, individualized reinforcement to client behavior, using daily issues to teach and reinforce adaptive behaviors.

  • Utilizes a proactive/preventive method of intercepting problems to neutralize them before they escalate.

  • Strategically utilizes identified behavior management techniques and other de-escalation training to assist clients in developing appropriate behaviors.

  • Assists clients in developing insight into their behaviors so that they learn to self-identify and self correct.

  • Understands the impact of client’s behaviors on their own actions/reactions in the workplace and utilizes team feedback to enhance the effectiveness of their interventions.

  • Knows the population and is aware of individualized treatment plan.

  • Provides daily living supervision and treatment intervention.

  • Establishes a therapeutic relationship with the client based on trust and respect.

  • Evaluates the impact of behavioral, group treatment, and life-space interventions and provides

  • direction/feedback.

  • Assures consistent, ongoing, and timely provision for basic client needs.

  • Follows medication management guidelines.

  • Safely transports youth to/from program activities and community resources monitoring

  • behaviors and following agency transportation protocols.

  • Effectively participates in team to review case progress and provide best programming.

  • Maintain good team participation and interaction.

  • Maintain positive role modeling and performing, as an agent of change for the youth.

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Behavior Health Intervention Services (BHIS) and

  • Medicaid requirements and standards.

  • Complete documentation of services in a timely manner – including daily case notes, behavior management, visual checks, etc., before the end of your scheduled shift.

Education/Experience:
To qualify you must be at least 21 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED. A Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services related field of study is preferred, but not required.

Additional requirements include:


  • Desire to help kids succeed.

  • Prior experience working with children in a mental health setting preferred.

  • Strong communication and problem solving abilities.

  • Basic computer skills in a MS Office environment.

About Foster Group Care Services (FGCS)
Foster Group Care Services (FGCS) provides a safe, structured, and stable living environment for foster care children unable to live in a family situation due to social or emotional needs. The program facilitates child development and the acquisition of age-appropriate life skills. The goal is to help each child develop and maintain relationships with their family and community while ensuring that they stay connected to their kin, culture, and community.

About the Shelter Program
Shelter programming components include behavior management, recreation and education. The program also offers a comprehensive social diagnostic and evaluation service to assist decision makers in developing appropriate treatment plans for troubled children and families. 

The Shelter program is used as an entry point into a variety of placement settings and services and as a transition between out of home placements and home. Length of stay is intended to be no longer than 30 days, by which time permanent placement arrangements should be made.
