Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction
of the City Auditor, applies well established auditing principles, theories,
concepts, and practices to moderately difficult audits: performs as an
in-charge auditor over audit projects; conducts financial, operational, and/or
information systems audits for compliance with policies and procedures
prescribed by management; conducts interviews and examines documents, financial
reports, records, etc. to determine if deficiencies exist; communicates audit
objectives, purpose, and findings with division directors and management staff,
responds to questions regarding audit procedures, and recommends corrective
actions regarding control deficiencies, system effectiveness, and cost
reductions, etc.; develops auditing procedures to effectively evaluate internal
controls; and interprets policies, researches financial records, and prepares
written analysis to assist in management operations.  Drives throughout the City to various work
locations.



OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1.         Performs additional functions (essential
or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both
verbally and in writing.  Requires the
ability to use general office equipment such as a personal computer, telephone,
and calculator.  Requires the ability to
lift and carry objects such as boxes of files weighing up to 15 lbs. Requires
the ability to operate a company vehicle to travel to worksites throughout the
City.

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Majority of work is performed in an office environment.  Requires meetings at off-site city offices.
Requires frequent travel to worksites by driving company vehicle.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
 



  1. Internal
    Auditor
    - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business
    Administration or closely related field and three (3) years’ experience in
    auditing and internal control applications; or any combination of experience
    and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s
    License as a condition of continued employment.

     



  2. Internal
    Auditor Senior
    - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business
    Administration or closely related field and four (4) years’ experience in
    auditing and internal control applications; or any combination of experience
    and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s
    license as a condition of continued employment.

     


  3. Internal
    Auditor Coordinator
    - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance,
    Business Administration or closely related field and five (5) years’ experience
    in auditing and internal control applications with one (1) of the five (5)
    years in a lead/supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and
    training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s
    license as a condition of continued employment.


The City Charter requires that City Employees must
establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of
Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
