Cornell Tech is seeking an outstanding candidate to become the first director of our computer security clinic for victims of intimate partner violence (IPV). IPV is a widespread problem, and technology is increasingly used to facilitate harms against victims. Groundbreaking recent academic research out of the IPV computer security and privacy group at Cornell Tech has pioneered a new intervention model for helping victims with technology abuse via face-to-face consultations with them.
We are now looking for a director who can help bridge from our academic work to a sustainable advocacy mission. The role will involve direct client tech privacy and safety advocacy work, management of our current clinic volunteers and researchers, collaboration on academic research with faculty and students, and thought leadership on designing a successful advocacy organization. This role will put you at the forefront of research and first-of-their-kind, evidence-based interventions that empower IPV victims to more safely navigate technology-enabled abuse.
The ideal candidate will have domestic violence advocacy experience, strong organizational and communication skills, some experience managing small teams, and entrepreneurial energy. Some background or experience with digital technology is a plus (e.g., degree or qualification in computer science or tech-related field, work or hobbyist experience). Fluency in one or more foreign languages a plus, but not required.
The candidate must be willing to relocate to New York City, and the position will be based out of the beautiful new Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island. Ability to do field work at various locations around the city will be required. The position will be full time, but with flexible working hours, a competitive salary, and full benefits.
The initial appointment length will be one year, with the possibility of extension. The clinic will expand, and the director will be charged with helping increase its resources, capacity, and scale.
