The Software Engineer will develop and maintain front end user interfaces dedicated to configuring and monitoring servomotor drives used in various motion systems applications (packaging machines, robotics, etc.). The tasks include UX design, software design, architecture and review, implementation, code review, product integration, automated and manual testing, validation and stabilization.

Our software group is composed of one distributed scrum team primarily located in Santa Barbara. This position is intended to integrate the group in Santa Barbara and collaborate with some other SW teams in the company, distributed in the US and Europe. Our Scrum teams are active in all aspects of the software development cycle, from specifications down to validation and delivery. We follow a code review process to ensure the highest code quality and maintainability. As we work across multiple time zones, some flexibility is required to accommodate all participants.

This position will be joining the Kollmorgen team in Santa Barbara, CA. Kollmorgen is part of Altra (AIMC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare mockups and interact with end users to build the right feature
  • Design/refactor software architecture
  • Develop code and unit tests
  • Review architecture and code
  • Test and validate the software written
  • Contribute to software development process improvements
  • Integrate new technologies in the development flow
  • Occasional domestic and international travels may be necessary (

Job Requirements

Critical Competencies
  • Strong interest in GUI development, sensitive to ease of use and aesthetic
  • Experience in C# or other object-oriented language (Java, C++, etc.)
  • Strong interest in software architecture and design
  • Ability to work in a global collaborative team environment
  • Result oriented, self-starting, and proactive
  • Ability to enter and deal with complex subjects in an effective manner
  • Customer oriented - focus on ease-of-use and feature usability
  • Experience with .NET framework, WPF, XAML and WinForms is a plus
  • Experience in GUI interacting with hardware devices is a plus

Education and Experience Requirements
  • B.S. in software engineering or equivalent degree in computer science
  • 6 months of professional software development experience preferred, ideally with involvement in software architecture design
  • Fluent in English, other languages a plus
  • Experience in leading small projects is a plus
