Job Functions:Job SummaryThis position performs engineering work related to researching, designing, and applying of control system products to custom power systems applications. This includes complex troubleshooting, inspections, specialized testing and on-site commissioning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design interfaces between MTU control panels and engine ECUs
Develop special customer applications with MTU controls system
Interface electrical and mechanical applications and systems per customer requirements
Design and maintain custom templates on a per job basis
Troubleshooting capabilities: complex relay calibration, use of load and power quality recording instrumentation, high voltage circuit breaker and switchgear testing, all equipment associated with substation equipment testing.
May perform and/or supervise a full range of complex engineering studies.
Write complete, detailed reports promptly at end of project
Work directly with controls and governor manufacturers to improve functionality and mitigate issues
Specify new controls, options, and functionality requirements to manufacturers
Hardware responsibilities: switchgear, modular controls cabinets, voltage regulators, control panels, engine ECUs and other protective relays
Work with the electrical department to harmonize and standardize electrical drawings and control systems
Assist all areas of company with controls related issues
Safety and environmental procedures and work instructions can be referenced in the Matrix
Qualifications:Minimum QualificationsEducation/ExperienceBachelor's degree and 5 years experience in service and/or testing in the generator set manufacturing or similar industry, or 9 years experience in service and/or testing in the generator set manufacturing or similar industry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Programming: PLC programming, function block, structure text, scripted languages, Boolean/digital logic.
Device communication/structure: SCADA, TCP-IP, Modbus and CANbus
Power systems: fundamentals, paralleling system management, power electronics
Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, line drawings and ladder diagrams
Willingness to travel to customer and manufactures sites
Devise strategic plans for problem resolutions using facts and gathered data
Responsible for electrical commissioning and overseeing the installation of systems, and equipment.
Carry out product performance reviews and verification by formulating test plan, utilizing data mapping and power quality logging on generating systems
Making improvements to, and offering advice about, operational procedures
Scheduling and coordinating work to tight deadlines
Ensuring that equipment works to its specification
Investigating problems and diagnosing and repairing faults
Liaising with installation/project engineers
Writing reports and documentation
Providing technical support
Ensuring safe working conditions
Training maintenance and operative staff where appropriate
Project Management Skills
Good operational knowledge of electrical power distribution systems
Working knowledge of AC Voltages up to 13800 volts
Willing to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays and night work. Must be available for out-of-town and international travel of up to several weeks. Travel up to 50%
