The Trade Manager will be based in Fremont, CA. He or She will work to ensure internal trade compliance in alignment with both Flex Corporate guidance and international regulations, while helping driving supply chain strategies. This position will ensure corporate compliance with import, export, and free trade laws and regulations by leading and participating in both strategic and tactical activities and initiatives to ensure the internal trade compliance program objectives are effectively and efficiently managed.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:
Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures that direct and support export, import, and free trade activities to ensure compliance with US and foreign regulations
Identify, initiate, coordinate, and lead projects/cross functional projects that improve existing processes and procedures to support trade compliance activities and/or business objectives
Develop, implement, and update the Trade Compliance Program to ensure a best practices program consistent with U.S. Export/Import laws and Regulations of the U.S. State Department, U.S. Commerce Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (Customs), and trade-related requirements of other U.S. and non-U.S. Government Agencies
Lead global implementation of any process changes needed to ensure that the business is fully compliant, operating efficiently and leveraging tariff structure optimally.
Collaborate with Supply Chain and Legal Department leaders to set the strategic direction of the Trade Compliance function ensuring tactical activities are completed within full compliance and alignment with strategy.
Works with the Commercial and Procurement team to advise on the structure of business arrangements to comply with regulations and efficient logistics
Review import and export classification codes for company and government documentations.
Respond to inquiries from customs brokers, government agencies, customers and vendors.
Ability to interpret and apply customs law and regulations
Collaborate with international customs brokers to facilitate customs clearance globally
Implement necessary program modifications and effectively communicate throughout the organization
Lead Free Trade program qualification activities including review, evaluation, validation, approval, and communication
Collaborate with the business to determine appropriate license requirements and prepare, submit, maintain, and train employees on import/export authorizations including licenses and agreements to ensure compliance with US export regulation
Here is some of what you’ll need (required):
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or Supply chain.
5-8 years’ experience in global trade regulations specifically focused on large construction type projects.
Experience in FTA analysis and evaluation required. These include NAFTA, ASEAN, CHAFTA and more. Specific experience in obtaining rulings in various jurisdictions (US, Australia, India, EU. LATAM) for classification and scope in trade remedies cases.
Experience in development and management of trade compliance programs (export, import, FTA, etc) required.
Ability to travel internationally 10-15% of the time required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; in particular data analysis using Excel
Solid structuring and analytical skills to keep track of multiple projects, in an international and multicultural environment.
Here are a few of our preferred experiences:
MBA would be a nice to have.
US Customs Broker’s license (or similar foreign) is recommended.
Steel and energy management systems helpful.
Experience with using an ERP system such as Oracle for sourcing materials a plus, but not required
Understanding of government procurement regulations recommended.
