The Planning & Construction Project Manager provides general supervision, coordination and technical support to Monterey Bay Aquarium and related facilities construction; including remodeling and engineering projects as directed. The position also assures work performed meets industry and Monterey Bay Aquarium standards, and is accomplished within approved time and cost goals.
Responsible for providing general management of Monterey Bay Aquarium and related facilities construction, remodeling and engineering projects in a professional, businesslike manner
Manage project team participants including architects, contractors, consultants and vendors
Coordinate and implement action plans, schedules and budgets for assigned projects in conjunction with project team members and other personnel as necessary
Observe and monitor progress and quality of project work, budgets and schedules to insure all parties under contract with Monterey Bay Aquarium are complying with the terms of their contract
Work closely with Monterey Bay Aquarium management staff to coordinate planning and project team activities with essential operations of the departments
Provide assistance, as required, in preparation of project contracts including scope, schedules, terms and conditions and fee basis; also participates in contract negotiation as required
Maintain appropriate logs, schedules and records of projects including but not limited to Contract Documents, Change Orders, Construction Change Directives and Authorizations, Shop Drawings, reports of meetings and conferences, request for payments and other important documents
Responsible for insuring reports required by the Monterey Bay Aquarium or governmental agencies are completed and submitted in a timely fashion
Performs other duties related to Planning and Construction as required
Absolutely Required Skills / Knowledge / Ability / Experience or Education
Bachelor degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, architecture or related engineering field required
Production of Architectural program, design development, construction and project "close out" documentation
Character, quality, and cost of building materials and equipment
Architectural and technical engineering detailing, construction technology and operations
Strong knowledge of building codes and regulations
Site planning, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering
Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and coordinate work of a project team
Demonstrated ability to plan, budget and manage assigned project during production
Competency in a "Windows" computer environment using MS Word, Excel, Access, Project etc.
Competency in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (i.e. AutoCAD)
Strong multi-tasking abilities required to facilitate multiple complex projects with constant attention to detail
Ability to work within, and maintain Monterey Bay Aquarium's Core Values
Desired Skills / Knowledge / Ability / Experience or Education
Experience with CAFM (Computer Aided Facilities Management) software and processes
Experience with construction project cost estimation methodologies
State Licensed or certified design professionals preferred such as RA (Registered Architect), PE (Professional Engineer), GC (General Contractor), CPM (Certified Project Manager)
Experience with field conditions quality assurance and final project "punch list" processing
Participate as a member of the Emergency Operations Center Planning Section
Attend Operations Committee meetings as requiredReference #
