The Research Vice President (RVP), Consumer Strategies, is responsible for helping to set the consumer-focused technology research agenda at IDC. This includes fielding primary surveys, writing papers, delivering presentations, driving consulting work, and advising technology-based clients. The RVP is tasked with meeting publication deadlines and hitting quarterly and annual profit targets. The RVP is also responsible for managing a team of direct reports within IDC's consumer technology research practice, as well as coordinating with other IDC technology research analysts around the world.
Consumer Research Leadership: The RVP serves as the chief consumer technology research evangelist at IDC. The RVP drives the vision, strategic development, and internal coordination of analysts and resources covering the fast-evolving consumer technology research market. The RVP must be a thought leader, well versed in the language of consumer research and technology, and adept at fielding, analyzing, and articulating the results of frequent and precise consumer-focused surveys.
Relationship Management: The RVP must cultivate and manage executive-level relationships with customers, prospects, and other key industry players in the consumer technology market.
Verbal and Written Communications: The RVP must be proficient in authoring research documents and presentations, with the latter delivered at conferences and in front of customers and prospects.
Business Development and Consulting: The RVP utilizes technical knowledge and expertise to develop and implement unique research services for clients and drives exclusive consumer-focused content for consulting projects geared toward satisfying the requirements of customers.
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree a plus
10-15 years of previous technology market research experience or in a related industry
Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (SPSS a plus)
Ability to travel (30-40%)
Proven team management experience for both direct and indirect teams
Proven project management, and time management capabilities, with an eye toward attention to detail and the ability to communicate data analysis through written reports and presentations
A positive, entrepreneurial attitude with the ability to bring vision, creativity, and strategic thinking to the design and management of high-profile research projects while working under pressure and with competing deadlines
