Job Description:
Summary: The Health and Safety (H&S) Associate is responsible for providing guidance and direct assistance in maintaining compliance of job sites with Safety rules and regulations. Job sites are primarily at Lynn, MA, Cranston, RI, Fall River, MA. Home base office location can be at either Cranston, RI or Fall River, facilities depending on geographic residency of the successful candidate.

Main Job Duties:

  • Monitors and ensures employee and facility safety, security, and compliance performance regarding Management Systems and H&S rules, regulations, principles, and practices at assigned projects, with emphasis on principals and site-specific practices such as job safety analysis in order to enhance safety culture.
  • Works with field employees, management teams and safety committees, , within assigned area of responsibility to develop and sustain a pro-active, zero-tolerance H&S culture.
  • Continuously evaluates all aspects of H&S programs for value, effectiveness, and improvement at the specific job sites.
  • Conducts training assessments and skill gap analyses and assists with the resultant development, scheduling, and, as-needed H&S training and awareness programs. Provides site specific or general training as needed.
  • Leads incident investigations (including near-misses, injuries, illnesses, property damage, vehicle collisions, chemical releases, and the like) within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Conducts a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for the purpose of identifying causal factors, preventive and corrective actions, and lessons-learned. Makes recommendation to his/her direct report where an RCA process indicates a program, policy, procedure, or training improvement is necessary.
  • Participates in routine and non-routine as well as formal and informal audits and inspections regarding Management Systems and H&S (including facility security assessments). Develops appropriate reports and action plans to address program deficiencies or improvement opportunities.Tracks said plans and report from issue identification through resolution.




Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 year degree in safety required, environmental or a related field or equivalent work experience desired.
  • 5 years or more of experience in a safety related position.
  • Familiar with industrial environments such as wastewater / water utilities, power plants, refinery, chemical steel, mining, etc.).
  • Must understand how to research OSHA, EPA, DOT rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate Process Safety Management Requirement.
  • Ability to recognize hazards in an industrial environment and be able to mitigate them.
  • Ability to write draft site specific policies and procedures for the respective job sites relating to Process Safety Management.
  • Must be able to speak comfortably in front of large groups or one on one with customer corporate personnel (Plant Manager, Corp Safety Manager, etc).
  • Must be able to participate in and/or lead Process Hazards Analysis.
  • Must be able to write Safe/Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ability to participate in thorough and timely investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Must be able to conduct EHS training either in person, on a conference call or on line.
  • Must be able to work with little or no direct supervision.
  • Extensive travel (>75%) required within driving distance.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Must be able to pass drug and criminal background screening.
