Job Description:

The M&A / Strategy Attorney will serve as the lead in-house attorney supporting the Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Strategy groups of UPS, the world’s largest transportation company. The M&A / Strategy Attorney will be responsible for advising business leaders on legal aspects of M&A transactions and strategy initiatives around the globe, and for supporting related diligence, negotiations and regulatory matters. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Structures, negotiates, and manages complex M&A transactions, including strategic investments, joint ventures and commercial marketing platforms
  • Advises business personnel, including senior company management, on the legal and business opportunities and risks associated with proposed transactions and strategy initiatives
  • Collaborates with other in-house attorneys, and manages outside counsel, to achieve UPS’s business objectives

Knowledge and Skills

  • Identifies opportunities and risks associated transactions and strategy initiatives; complex problem solver who removes barriers and develops solutions to complete business goals; wins concessions effectively, and uses multiple strategies to persuade others
  • Collaborates closely with M&A and Strategy teams, as well as other business functions; team player who can build consensus; invests in learning the company’s business and commercial priorities
  • Maintains strategic relationships with law firms; effectively manages outside counsel
  • Tracks expenditures against financial targets
  • Member in good standing with a state bar
  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • 7-10+ years of experience practicing law on behalf of large public companies either at a large law firm or legal department
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills, with ability to establish deep relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen
  • Exercises sound judgment with highest integrity
  • Executive presence
