The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Senior Director of Content Strategy. The Senior Director of Content Strategy works with local market leadership to implement, evaluate, measure and refine the Scripps local content strategy. Working across an assigned group of local markets, this role ensures consistent understanding and execution of the strategy, including a consumer-centric, platform distinct commitment to essential journalism, meaningful storytelling and authentic connections.
Through strategic analysis and the lens of operational excellence they work with local media leadership to agree on tactics and changes to be deployed. They monitor assigned markets’ KPI and remediate gaps by delivering strategic and tactical consultation and assistance so that content performance is maintained and continually improved.
Collaborates to interpret and maintain Scripps’ local media content strategy including short- and long-range performance goals.
Coordinates and leverages research across assigned group of local markets.
For an assigned local media group, responsible for the following with each:
Partners with General Manager and News management to implement content strategy on all content platforms including working with local news teams to focus on enterprise and investigative journalism.
Ensures alignment and commitment to key performance indicator (KPI) goals.
Coordinates with marketing and news departments to continually evaluate brand strategy and monitor delivery of brand promise.
Monitors KPI dashboards for all news platforms; Coordinates efforts to address gaps.
Consults with General Manager and News management on news strategy execution and tactics as well as remedial action plans to address gaps in KPI performance.
Partners with News management to grow and improve news product on all platforms.
Assesses training needs and coordinates resources.
Evaluates and fosters development of talent to ensure a reliable content talent pipeline is established.
Fosters an effective partnership between Creative Services and Content groups and partners with General Manager to address gaps in teamwork.
Make recommendations that integrate best practices and proof-of performance strategies.
Acts as lead to coordinate coverage of national events (e.g. hurricanes, fires, shootings, political, crisis or emergency)
Network nationally, regionally and locally to stay abreast of emerging media trends and product solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related discipline
10 or more years content experience in digital media, journalism, broadcast or a closely related field is required.
Experience leading a digital news team or as a broadcast news director preferred.
Knowledgeable regarding television newsroom systems and methods including digital and social media.
Working knowledge of HD and multi-platform technologies (internet, secondary digital channels, etc.).
Strong understanding of both broadcast and digital analytics.
