This position is within NOC Level 3 Voice. It s a second tier position to Voice Services responsible for supporting the technical day-to-day operations that maintain the new and existing business and residential customer base for Optimum Voice. This includes all soft switches and disaster recovery switches, trunking gateways, announcement servers, voicemail servers, world call servers, broadband signal transfer point platforms, all network analyzers and multiple support servers. Understands requirements to meet the needs of new services or hardware related to any new products such as HD Voice, and next generation gateways and media servers. Provides lead support to customer service department/dispatch through the use of the remedy ticketing system along with extensive real time telephone support relating to customers escalations.
The Optimum Voice Switch Technician is responsible for supporting the technical day-to-day operations that maintain the new and existing business and residential customer base for Optimum Voice. This includes all softswitches, trunking gateways, announcement servers, voicemail servers, world call servers, broadband signal transfer point platforms, disaster recovery switches and all associated servers. Provides support to the customer service department/dispatch departments through the use of the remedy ticketing system along with extensive real time telephone support relating to customers escalations. Performs installations, testing, and turn-up of all related softswitches equipment and supporting applications. Provides support to VOIP routing and translation engineering, integration engineering and network engineering departments. Responsibilities include maintaining the SLA for the operational performance and reliability of our Optimum voice platforms. Performs software and/or hardware upgrades and maintenance on all VOIP applications as required. Performs carrier escalations and resolutions of customer troubles related to long distance and international calling; including prompt softswitch routing changes. Provides technical updates to senior level positions in regards to trending issues troubles or unresolved system problems. Performs trouble shooting, provisioning support, and vendor escalations of the SIP trunking business product; including real time telephone support for technical service group and field service. Responsible for monitoring and responding to alerts related to any VOIP application alarms. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
* Minimum four-year degree or 3 years technical experience with CATV systems and/or VOIP is required
* Must have a basic knowledge of how the Public Telephone Network functions. Must have a basic knowledge of IP networking
* Must have the ability to distinguish industry color codes relating to Telecommunication Equipment
* General knowledge of telephone switching systems is helpful
* Must have expanded troubleshooting concepts experience
* Knowledge of VOIP telephony and a Unix server environment is a plus
* Must have strong logical, analytic and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload in a constantly changing environmet.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary
* Must have the ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as required, in a 24/7 environment
