SENIOR LICENSING OFFICER

The Senior Licensing Officer will be primarily responsible for managing the commercialization of the engineering intellectual property (IP) portfolio. The Senior Licensing Officer will focus on research, assessment, and marketing of UCR IP, negotiating complex technology transfer agreements, monitoring licensee performance and obligations, and engagement with faculty and students to support technology transfer and entrepreneurial activities on campus and commercialization of their inventions. The incumbent is expected to interact with internal and external stakeholders, including others on the Technology Commercialization and Technology Partnerships team, UCR faculty and students, entrepreneurs, and industry partners. The Senior Licensing Officer should be an experienced, customer-service oriented professional in technology transfer with the ability to communicate effectively and plan, organize, and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments. This position will report to the Director of Technology Commercialization as part of the Office of Technology Partnerships within Research and Economic Development at the University of California, Riverside. Candidates may be required to complete an assessment and give a presentation as part of the recruitment process. Budgeted hiring range for this position is $94,600 to $115,000.
Bachelor's degree in related area.
Degree in Engineering field.
MBA and/or JD.
Certified Licensing Professional (CLP)
Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP)
Experience in business development or sales related to commercialization of engineering technologies or products.
4 - 7 years of related experience.
Thorough knowledge of and application of standard principles, theories, and concepts and techniques such as laws, regulations, and practices pertaining to the protection and management of intellectual property, university technology transfer, and general scientific and/or technical skills in subject matter area.
Ability to market technology to industrial partners; knowledge of contracts and grants preferred.
Solid communicator: includes verbal and written communications, active listening, critical thinking, and persuasiveness.
Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service oriented individual who will be responsive to the needs of faculty, students, staff, entrepreneurs, and industry partners.
Demonstrated energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to make and utilize new contacts.
Precise attention to detail, well organized, follow-through to conclusion of actions, with ability to identify errors, offer resolution, and to meet strict deadlines.
Demonstrated record as a team player within a diverse environment.
Self-starter with strong work ethic who can work well with others.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments, responding appropriately to competing requirements and changing priorities.
Demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property management and patent (U.S. and foreign, including PCT) prosecution procedures, timelines, laws and regulations.
Knowledge of material science, chemical and environmental engineering.
