SUMMARY OF ROLE

This individual will act as the software team lead for an exciting business area of DRS’ Electro Optics and Imaging Systems (EOIS) division.  In this role, you will interface with some of the most respected scientists and engineers in the industry to continue in the pursuit of technical excellence and market dominance. A strong background in software development for complex systems within the defense industry is required.  This software director will work as part of the overall program leadership team developing and executing program plans and interfacing directly with customers.  This is a technical leadership position that requires extensive understanding of software development processes, military standards, and software test methods.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for supervising a team of engineers and completion of activity on time and budget

  • Ability to supervise a technical group independently 

  • Manage budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments

  • Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required

  • Participate in preparation of proposals

  • Participate in and/or lead design reviews

  • Supervise and direct the work of others as assigned

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS  


  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field with a minimum of 10+ years of experience

  • Experience managing complex development activities, including development of program plans, schedules, requirements, and test plans

  • Experience developing software requirements and software designs based on system requirements and system design

  • Experience in mentoring and leading engineers and managing work assignments

  • Experience communicating complex technical information to government customer community

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including MS PowerPoint, MS Word and MS Excel

  • Involved with the design, development, analysis, testing and debugging of computer software applications and/or systems

  • Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance

  • Interacts with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications

  • Experienced developing software using C, C++, and ADA

DESIRED SKILLS


  • Experience architecting and developing complex embedded systems using RTOS such as VxWorks

  • Experience with embedded device drivers (TCP/IP, UART, I2C, PCIe, etc.)

  • Experience in initial hardware start-up and troubleshooting techniques

  • Ability to lead by example and foster ethical behavior within the team

  • Ability to decipher highly technical data and make sound decisions

  • Ability to resolve conflicts and motivate the team

Physical Conditions


  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. (up to once per week).

  • Up to 25%Travel
