Primary Job Functions:

First Solar is offering co-op/internship experiences to bright and talented students, with a passion for learning. The positions will allow students to gain a valuable blend of technical and business experience in the field of solar energy, and allow them to demonstrate their skills for future career opportunities at First Solar. A mentor will coach students through assignments that are designed to integrate classroom theory with practical work.

Expected Length of Internship:

3 months, Winter 2020 and/or Spring 2020

  • As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enroll in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the essential functions of the position.

Experience:    


  • 2+ years collaboration in a team setting, at school or work.

  • Course work in mathematics and statistics.

  • Course work in computer programming and/or computer science.  (JMP scripting language and SQL preferred)

Education:


  • Must be pursuing an Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science degree. 

  • Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelors (3rd year or later), Master’s or PhD program who is fulfilling a graduation requirement for their degree.

  • First Solar encourages all interns to register with their University.

Required Skills/Competencies:


  • Ability to review coding manuals to learn new syntax independently.

  • Ability to review and understand the purpose of existing scripts.

  • Understanding of creating a chart, plot or visualization to convey data.

  • Can perform basic statistical analysis, calculate Mean/Median/Std Dev, and compare statistics across sample sets.

  • Has basic electrical knowledge, understanding current, voltage, resistance as well as diode operation.

  • Clear and concise communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Experience with fundamental technologies in a Microsoft environment: Windows OS, Office 365, etc.

Basic Internship Scope (Project):


  • Continue development of existing trends and metrics script to change and improve aggregation and analytical methods, update charts to better convey performance, and validate existing methods.

  • Manage and contribute to the development of an electrical failure analysis program.

    • Collect and organize data for easy display.

    • Perform electrical data analysis.

    • Use a microscope and electrical measurement equipment to diagnose electrical failure modes.



  • Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team.



US Physical Requirements:


  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift.

  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.

  • Will lift up to 51 pounds on a seldom basis, according to work instruction.

  • Will push or pull up to 27 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.

  • 20/40 vision in each eye, (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green is required.

  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.

  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.

  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).

  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).

Office Physical Requirements:

All positions in our office require interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting.
