Quality Assurance Coordinator

Job Description:

The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the laboratory and sanitation departments. They are responsible in liaison with the process operator to ensure a quality finished product, meeting customers specifications by monitoring all in-process analysis, making proper notification of all out of specification product and taking necessary precautions to aid in the prevention of non-conforming product.


  • Responsible in liaison with the QA Manager for the education and training of new sanitarians and laboratory technicians.

  • Assist the QA Manager with orientation of new employees pertaining to GMP. Overseeing the analytical and bacteriological testing on all raw material, in-process material and finished product in accordance with company policies and operating procedures.

  • See that the analysis is completed on a timely basis.

  • Ensure that all sanitation procedures follow regulatory agencies and customer specifications.

  • Review all in-process analysis.

  • Any out of specification result on product will be brought to the attention of shift supervisor / foreman and monitor analysis until corrective action has been achieved. Results on finished powder products must be reviewed and signed off before product is released for customer shipment. 

  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of pest control inspections. 

  • Work with outside contracted pest control vendor on monthly audits.

  • Assist QA Manager in overseeing / performing the tests pertinent to maintain the state approved laboratory status with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

  • Monthly collection of milk and water products for regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in and coordinate the annual proficiency testing program for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Organize and participate in split sampling programs within the laboratory for condensed, powder and butter products. 

  • Execute an annual drug residue split sample program with the receiving department. Maintain stock levels of laboratory and sanitation supplies. 

  • Communicate to the QA Manager when supplies are needed.

  • Establish control points for the Charm II system and monitor positive and negative reagent supplies.

  • Assist production department in QA trouble shooting inclusive of but not limited to sample collection, physical inspection, additional testing, and contribution of ideas. Responsible for maintaining calibration of laboratory equipment. 

  • Give direction to laboratory technicians for analysis required for equipment calibration. Maintain cost effectiveness and research ways to improve upon the efficiency of the laboratory and sanitation departments.

  • Performs other duties assigned.

  • Responsible to adhere to quality system requirements.

  • Maintain awareness of customer focus.

  • Responsible for environmental swabbing pathogens.

  • Performs post CIP equipment inspections and micro swabbing.

  • Responsible for flavoring and maintaining butter library samples.

Experience – Education Required:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 2 years of Food/Dairy manufacturing laboratory experience.

  • Good working knowledge of required analytical techniques and procedures.

Qualifications Skills Required:


  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).

  • Collaborate, with operators, leaders and supervisors.

Hours: 3rd Shift; 5:00 pm – 4:00 am, this role may require rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as required.

Work environment: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The temperature of the work environment can fluctuate due to occasional temperatures from cold/cool to warm/hot. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud and will require ear plugs. While working in the manufacturing areas, the incumbent is required to wear personal protective equipment.
