Professor Robert Pringle seeks a Research Specialist to join his laboratory in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University. Research in the Pringle Lab aims to understand how megafauna and top predators shape ecological communities, and how this information can be used to guide the rewilding of Earth's ecosystems. To do this, Lab members use long-term field experiments in conjunction with DNA metabarcoding and other methods.


The responsibilities of the Research Specialist will include: optimization of laboratory workspace and workflow; organization, curation, and cataloguing of samples collected in the field; extraction and analysis of environmental-DNA (eDNA) samples; planning and execution of laboratory experiments; data entry and curation of long-term datasets; supervision of technical aspects of undergraduate projects; and general laboratory management (e.g., providing safety and technical training for new personnel, updating the Pringle Lab website, applying for domestic and international research permits, ordering supplies, preparing reagents, and arranging maintenance and repair of equipment). The Research Specialist will also be expected to lead his or her own independent research project and develop a manuscript for publication. This is a one year term position with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and funding.


  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of science.
  • Ability to work independently as well as to work within a team, attention to detail in laboratory work, and meticulous record-keeping are paramount.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent communication skills are also essential.
  • Require the ability to review agreed goals, to analyze processes necessary to achieve those goals, and to develop techniques and systems required to meet those goals.
