IDC's Infrastructure Systems, Platforms and Technologies Group is seeking a Research Director (RD) to support its research and business development efforts on Edge Strategies.

The Research Director (RD) for Edge Strategies is responsible for developing and socializing IDC's point of view on Edge (Computing) Strategies with enterprises, IT suppliers and service providers. The individual will develop research on business strategies, the impact of relevant technologies on enterprises. This individual will also work with other worldwide and regional analysts to develop a holistic set of thought leadership and actionable research for IT Buyers and Suppliers. This research includes fielding primary surveys, writing papers, delivering presentations, driving consulting work, and advising technology-based clients on business strategies related to their investment in Edge. The RD is tasked with meeting publication deadlines, inquiry requirements and hitting quarterly and annual financial targets. The RD will also be working within a team of analysts within IDC's infrastructure research practice and coordinating with other IDC technology research analysts around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Research Leadership: The Research Director serves as IDC's lead research analyst and evangelist on Edge strategies – both business and technical. The RD drives the vision, strategic development, and internal coordination of analysts and resources covering the fast-evolving Edge technology research market. The RD must be a thought leader, well versed in the language of technology and related business research, and adept at fielding, analyzing, and articulating the results of frequent and precise edge-focused surveys. The RD will also take a leadership role in the development of IDC's Edge focused data products.
  • Relationship Management: The Research Director must cultivate and manage executive-level relationships with customers, prospects, and other key industry players in the Edge technology market. It is also critical to build and maintain collaborative relationships with IDC's analyst community, consultants, marketing and sales professionals.
  • Verbal and Written Communications: The Research Director must be proficient in authoring research documents and presentations, with the latter delivered at conferences and in front of customers and prospects.
  • Business Development and Consulting: The Research Director utilizes technical knowledge and expertise to develop and implement unique research services for clients and drives exclusive Edge-focused content for consulting projects geared toward satisfying the requirements of customers.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree a plus
  • 10 or more years of previous technology-centric market research experience or in a related industry
  • Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (SPSS a plus)
  • Ability to travel (30-40%)
  • Proven team management experience for both direct and indirect teams
  • Proven project management, and time management capabilities, with an eye toward attention to detail and the ability to communicate data analysis through written reports and presentations
  • A positive, entrepreneurial attitude with the ability to bring vision, creativity, and strategic thinking to the design and management of high-profile research projects while working under pressure and with competing deadlines
