Opportunity to work as an integral member of the Transgenics Service team of Norris Cotton Cancer Center's Mouse Modeling Shared Resource. We are seeking an individual with a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent knowledge/work experience working in a laboratory environment (two years of experience preferred). Successful applicant will have good communication (oral and written skills) and be able to demonstrate competence in several laboratory methods, procedures and techniques. Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and instruments needed. Must have good organizational and time management skills and an ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment. Applicants should have willingness to work with small animals (e.g., mice) and be exposed to hazardous materials/chemicals. Knowledge of computers and basic software applications required. Candidates with experience working in animal research, including mouse colonies, injections, breeding, in vivo assays and entering data into computerized databases preferred.

Position Purpose

Serve as an integral member of the research team to achieve project(s) objectives, facilitate project plans, communicate project status to leadership, and work effectively toward problem resolution.

Special Instructions to Applicants

40 hour per week standard schedule Monday-Friday schedule (e.g., 8 AM - 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch) with flexibility to work evenings or weekends to meet demands of Shared Resource or laboratory. Dr. Fiering may adjust schedule to accommodate needs of Shared Resource.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities
  • Takes responsibility for and conducts laboratory experiments that predominantly utilize mammalian cell culture, mice and mouse tissues as the experimental model, utilizing a range of established methods, procedures, and techniques with necessary preparations, observes experiment and monitors mouse subjects, records observations and maintains laboratory notebook. (80% effort)
  • Prepares appropriate and understandable representations of data such as graphs, charts, tables, statistical summaries, etc. (5% effort)
  • Laboratory maintenance; orders lab supplies, monitors laboratory equipment and instrument performance, obtains maintenance and repair as necessary. (5% effort)
  • May assist in mouse surgery and mouse colony maintenance including injections, breeding, in vivo assays and collect the data. (10% effort)
