Dematic is hiring for a Controls Systems Engineer at our Fairburn, GA facility. The successful candidate will have experience working with the application of automated material handling solutions (conveyors, palletizers, AS/RS, or Automated Guided Vehicles). This includes controls design and machine control with an understanding of warehouse control software and operational considerations. This role would be responsible for troubleshooting and implementing changes to a highly automated material handling system.

Essential Role and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex systems issues and recommen ideals on productivity improvement, cost reduction and improve customer satisfaction

  • Perform complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer for both processes and application of products to system design

  • Coordinate all controls and engineering input necessary to troubleshoot and maintain a high level of system uptime

  • Maintain a complete set of project engineering records on all assignments

  • Manage lifecycle of client issues by creating, responding, troubleshooting, communicating, and resolving product related Incidents and Problems

  • Install, configure, optimize and maintain OS, software and databases

  • Provide on-call, and on-site support when required, to resolve issues or assist with system migrations, upgrades, deployments or after hours support.

  • Create and maintain scripts used for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance actions

  • Designs and contributes to SOPs, tools and knowledge base articles.

  • Troubleshoot java code, identify bugs, and prepare patches and hot fixes.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Very good understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of automated systems

  • Broad knowledge of controls and software automation

  • Basic understanding of organization's business practices and issues

  • Good understanding of the application of electrical controls

  • Very good understanding of Microsoft Office applications

  • Experienced with programming a variety of PLC’s

  • J2EE foundation

  • Unix/Linux system administration and scripting (preferred)

  • Networking

  • MS Windows Server (2003, 2008 or 2012) administration (preferred)

  • Tomcat Web Servers (preferred)

  • Knowledge of warehouse operations a plus 

Qualification Requirements

  •  Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years’ experience working with the application of material handling solutions

  • Willingness to travel 10 - 20%

  • 1-4 years Java development experience (or education)

  • Proven experience meeting deadlines

  • Demonstration of previous independent project work

  • 1-4 years of SQL database experience (or education
