Job Description:

As a Project, Process & Utility Engineer, you will be responsible for leading/supporting the planning, design and implementation of a small or mid-sized facility, and equipment projects within an existing Biopharmaceutical Process Development Facility.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.

  • Execute the project management framework for delivering engineering projects to Biopharm Development and identify opportunities to improve project delivery.

  • Manage project scope and identify project changes that may impact resource needs and/or scheduling assumptions.

  • Demonstrates effective decision making in applying expertise by keeping up to date with emerging technologies and applications to ensure the appropriate solutions are brought forward and implemented for maximum business benefit.

  • Facilitates interaction within and between Biopharm R&D departments and GSK’s Facilities team. The R&D departments include Upstream, Downstream, and Analytical Science Process Development,  GSK facility team consists of a wide range of services, i.e.: HVAC, electricians, plumbers, general maintenance, housekeeping, lab/calibration services. Supply equipment engineering support to the process development groups that work on Microbial and Mammalian Cell Culture processes and their associated analytical methods. Work closely with scientific and manufacturing groups to understand procedures and process steps from vial thaw and seed scale-up to small- scale production bioreactors and purification steps.

  • Identify and report on equipment and utility improvements, operational efficiency and/or cost saving opportunities within the Biopharm R&D community.

  • Support Capital projects included both Equipment, Utility and facility projects.

  • Performs high level troubleshooting or evaluation of equipment and systems.

  • Provides engineered solutions to technical problems.

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, guides or executes all maintenance duties to satisfy operational and customer demands in compliance with company standards, quality requirements and safety and environmental regulations.

  • Focused disciplines may be electrical, safety, mechanical, instrumentation or information technology.

  • Provide guidance for the activities of engineers, mechanics, technicians or contract workforce.

  • Makes studies of operations, equipment and methods, inaugurates improvements and recommends replacement of building equipment due to normal wear or obsolescence.

  • Responsible for interacting and developing solutions for customer/stakeholder requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor in Engineering degree required.  Desired area of specialization is Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical).

  • 5+ years pharmaceutical/Bio-processing (equipment and utilities) engineering experience.

  • Bio-Processing utility systems experience/familiarity is required.

  • Project Management experience is required with competence to put together project scopes and follow thru with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master's in Engineering degree. Desired area of specialization is Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical)

  • Broad-based knowledge of Biopharmaceutical processing and analtical equipment, and associated engineering, and maintenance activities.

  • Experience with the use of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

  • Familiar with process instrumentation, PLC and Distributed Control Systems, with specific experience in Microbial and Mammalian Cell Culture production, protein purification operations, and utility systems.

  • Experience with leading subcontracted and external projects to perform project deliverables. Lead and participate in the execution phase of these projects.

  • Experience in biotechnology process equipment and/or facilities design and specification.

  • Equipment knowledge of bioreactors & fermenters, filtration, Chromatography and other downstream processing equipment, clean-in-place systems, and utility systems (WFI, DI water, Clean Steam, and laboratory gasses).

  • Working knowledge of cGMP guidelines for pharmaceutical processing.

  • Demonstrated record of achievement in small project execution, cross-functional team contribution and equipment troubleshooting.

  • Represent the Engineering department on teams requiring relevant primary experience.

  • Prioritization and self-directed coordination of engineering and maintenance activities.

  • Proactively interact with related groups including all Biopharm Process Development Groups, Site engineering and maintenance
