Senior Buyer, Corporate Programs

The Senior Buyer plays an active role in the procurement of Corporate Programs to include equipment, supplies, and services for CarMax locations nationwide. In this position, you will independently partner across the organization to source, coordinate purchases, manage supplier and customer relationships, negotiate contracts, and manage project implementations.

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities

Supplier Management and Coordination
  • Coordinate purchases of supplies and services
  • Monitor supplier's performance for adherence to contracts and service level agreements
  • Independently resolve supplier performance issues
  • Create and review supplier scorecards
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings and reviews with suppliers
  • Analyze purchases with suppliers and regularly identify sourcing or savings opportunities
  • Conduct Requests for Proposal or Information (RFPs and RFIs) as necessary
  • Review industry / commodity data to stay informed of industry changes and trends
  • Support escalated daily procurement operations including performing price / product evaluations


Project Management and Implementation
  • Proactively work with customers and business groups to identify needs and research new products and suppliers
  • Coordinate and lead project teams
  • Implement new programs, products or services for a specific location or on a nationwide / company wide basis


Internal Customer Relationship Management
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Meet regularly with customers to review upcoming projects, product or service needs
  • Ensure customer expectations and requirements are met for categories / spend managed


Contract Coordination and Negotiation
  • Coordinate agreement execution or amendment to support programs
  • Negotiate standard procurement terms with limited supervision or assistance
  • Make recommendations and assist in the negotiation contract terms such as: pricing, length of agreement, inventory stocking, delivery, and service levels
  • Monitor and regularly review existing contracts


Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with other departments
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and influence business partners and peers
  • Willingness to challenge upwards appropriately in the best interest of CarMax
  • Strong internal and external customer service and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and is results focused
  • Ability to comprehend and apply basic mathematics, provide analysis on procurement related subject matters


Education and/or Experience:
  • Previous procurement/buying and supplier management experience required (5+ years)
  • Four-year degree preferred, but not required
  • Project management experience required (3+ years)
  • Proven success in building relationships
