In this position:

You will be challenged to learn Microsoft SQL Server that supports a $1B business, both as an super-user/administrator to develop SQL for creating schemas/tables/triggers/stored procedures as well as SQL Server-as-a-whole-system for maintaining, monitoring, patching, configuring backups and recovery, and performance tuning of a 3 TB SQL Server AlwaysOn cluster.

As a DBA at Build.com,  you will support the entire company, from the business-side analysts to software development engineers.

What are you going to do:


  • Performs root cause analysis on trended database incidents, performance tuning and major outages up through the application stack


  • Improve our database documentation when architecting or automating new features


  • Troubleshoot data and query errors as reported by team members


  • Develop database schema


  • Create and maintain database structures, such as indexes, constraints and triggers


  • Write clean SQL queries, stored procedures and functions under tight deadlines


  • Optimize queries


  • Document database architecture


  • Evaluate and recommend new database technologies


  • Implement and maintain solutions to monitor database systems


  • Supporting high availability database (24/7/365 operation)


  • Normalize databases and reduce technical debt


  • Review client-side code to help optimize and/or troubleshoot database calls


  • Ability to interface with Developers to produce solid database design choices and system integration


  • Provide basic SQL training to non-DBA staff


  • Understand and develop processes for maintaining database security


  • Ability to create simple interfaces for reporting and other repetitive tasks


What are you going to bring to the table:


  • Strong working knowledge of relational database management systems, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL.


  • ​Strong working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server environments


  • Working knowledge of SQL


  • Knowledge of database design standards


  • Stored procedure programming basic knowledge


  • Strong troubleshooting skills


  • Must be detail-oriented and have a strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills


  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment


  • Self-organized with good time management, and ability to multitask


  • Must work well with others. Collaboration and professional communication is key


  • Knowledge of SQL Server tools (DTA, SSMS, DMVs, and system sprocs)


  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues, etc


  • Requires initiative to work when necessary to meet deadlines or when working on high-priority projects


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent degree preferred
