Position Summary (Purpose):

Responsible for developing and overseeing the detailing and checking of complex bridge related shop drawings and 3D models, creating submittal packages, RFI’s, and transmittal letters from contract drawings and specifications. Maintaining a drawing log and standards.

Essential Functions:

•Develop complex layouts, 3D models, shop and submittal drawings for steel bridge forms, steel grid decking, bridge railing, miscellaneous structural steel in accordance with contract drawings, specifications, state DOT standards and AASHTO standards.

•Reading and interpreting project plans, specifications and engineering surveys

•Create standard 3D parts inside the Vault Professional LB Foster Inventor library

•Writing technical letters and RFI’s

•Verbal communications with internal engineering team, project managers, Plant personnel and external customers.

•Communicate with supervisor regarding any job-related issues and work progress, including expected detailing costs versus planned costs •Clerical work including printing drawings, letters, mailing to outside customers, etc.

•Travel and overnight visits to LB Foster’s plant, customer and to jobsite locations, to resolve problems and to develop product improvement ideas

•Lead and Mentor Detailers and Drafters in all aspects of the detailing process.

•Planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the activities and operations of Detailing

•Able to work independently with minimal supervision and lead small team of Detailers.

Requirements

Skills, Experience and Education:

•7-10 years related experience or 4-year degree in Civil, Mechanical, Structural Engineering plus 3 years experience

• Knowledge of state DOT standards and specifications including New York, New York City and New Jersey.

•Well versed in the use of 2-D AutoCAD though version 2017, Inventor 3D 2018 and Vault Professional 2018.

•Experience developing complex parts and large assemblies using Inventor.

•Experience developing structural steel shop drawings and submittals.

•Experience reading and interpreting structural steel project plans and specifications

•Experience writing iLogic codes and rules in Inventor.

•Strong math skills including Geometry and Trigonometry, and use of scientific calculators

•Strong writing skills

•Working knowledge of Excel Word, and MS Project.
