REFUSE TRUCK DRIVER at University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma

Job Description:

FUNCTION: Responsible for operating front loading packer refuse collection trucks used for loading and disposing of refuse throughout the campus area. Performs similar, routine tasks requiring some organizational skills and the making of some decisions in the application of prescribed procedures and established standards.


 


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:


1. Drives truck following established routes and maintains collection schedules.


2. Loads truck and disposes of refuse at landfill.


3. Fills out necessary daily and weekly reports.


4. Assures that truck is properly equipped, cleaned, and serviced.


5. Performs minor maintenance and reports any needed repairs.


6. Uses established safety practices to protect health and safety of personnel and property.


7. Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Education: GED/High School Grad OR an equivalent
combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 12-24 months experience in the operation of heavy vehicles



Skills:


  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions

  • Performs simple recordkeeping operations

  • Uses tools or equipment in a manner requiring competence gained from previous training on the job


Certifications:

  • Valid Class B Commercial Oklahoma Driver's License


Advertised Physical Requirements:


  • Operating and maintaining large moving vehicles.

  • Loading and unloading heavy loads (up to 100 pounds).

  • Stooping, bending, standing, and climbing often and for prolonged periods.

  • Working in potentially hazardous conditions.

  • Performing physically demanding labor.

  • Some overtime, including nights, weekends and holidays may be required.

  • May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures.

  • May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.


Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience performing minor maintenance on heavy vehicles
