The Senior Site Civil Engineer plays a key role in assisting our clients with land development opportunities for both the public and private sectors.  This position is one where growth opportunities exist within our organization.   OHM will help you leverage your strengths and passions so that you will experience upward mobility within our organizational matrix.  Whether your career passions are to be in project technical leadership or project management, OHM will help you achieve your career goals. The Senior Site Civil Engineer will assist the team in providing design leadership for the project.  This individual will be responsible for growing their team while growing themselves.   We are looking to find individuals who pride themselves on delivering successful projects to our clients while building relationships internally and externally to the firm.

The Senior Site Civil Engineer will be leading a team on the execution of exciting engineering projects.  This position is responsible for the entire site design process.  This includes assisting in writing successful proposals, coordinating with our survey team, coordinating with other project disciplines, interacting with various jurisdictional entities, solving complex engineering issues, coming up with brilliant design solutions, completing design documentation, leading a design team, and ensuring a quality experience for our clients.

Not only do you touch multiple specialties within the civil engineering field, but you also work integrally with Architects, Land Planners, Landscape Architects, Urban Designers, as well as other engineering disciplines such as MEP Engineers and Structural Engineers.  The contribution you will develop in this position is helping connect the dots of all of our service offerings within an integrated services model.

 Your Responsibilities


  • Serve as a technical leader in executing projects from proposal authoring through project completion.

  • Understanding the project needs and goals to provide our clients with quality services and deliverables.

  • Assist senior leadership and project managers in marketing to clients and writing proposals for projects.

  • Mentoring younger staff to ensure their growth in the organization while growing your position in the organization.

  • Ensuring that design documents meet local, state, federal and best practice standards.

  • Work to ensure that quality assurance and quality control are maintained prior to issuing documents externally.

  • Develops work plans, schedules and budgets related to technical tasks of a scope of services for the team.

  • Completes complex technical tasks and computations for projects.

  • Identify and solve complex technical issues related to projects to minimize project risk.

  • Keeping up to date with the latest industry-specific standards, codes, approval agency requirements, and community requirements for Southeast, MI.

  • Be a strong problem solver for the team and for our clients.

  • Keep abreast of the latest technology and trends in our industry. Advise senior leadership on opportunities to provide better quality services to our clients.

Your Team

As a Senior Site Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for working with senior leadership on projects and leading a team of design engineers to complete projects in a timely and quality controlled manner.  While your core team is a group of Civil Engineers, you will also be working with a multidisciplinary team of Architects, Engineers, Planners, and Landscape Architects to successfully deliver projects to OHM's clients.

What You'll Need to Succeed


  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 8-15 years of Civil Engineering related experience. Experience in commercial, residential, municipal, parks, and K-12 is preferred.

  • We are looking for someone who has design experience and/or passion with regards to grading design, water mainline design, sanitary sewer design, roadway systems, storm sewer systems, green infrastructure, and storm-water management.

  • Experienced with public water mains and public sewer mains is desired.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is a must.

  • Proficiency in HydroCAD or other storm-water modeling applications is preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring of younger staff members.

  • Understanding of the constructability of the design. Ensuring that the design is constructible and that the design provides value to our clients.

  • The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiar with Construction Administration tasks related to a site project. This includes reviewing shop drawings, answering RFI's, attending field meetings, etc. 

  • We are looking for someone who possesses a Michigan Professional Engineer License.

  • Savvy with the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.

  • Ability to create project schedules, track progress completion, report to project leadership on progress, and prepare reports pertaining to project status.

  • A candidate needs to be able to contribute to the team using good written and verbal communication skills. The project engineer needs to be able to interact with clients, internal staff, and other project team members professionally.

  • A strong preference for a candidate is already familiar with Southeast Michigan and surrounding community process knowledge, plan preparation standards, and someone who knows the players at these various jurisdictions.

  • Self-directed and ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

  • Team-oriented mindset and strong listening and collaboration skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • A desire to grow into more elevated roles within the team and the organization.
