Position Summary

Alexion is seeking a highly motivated Accountant to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely results and to ensure appropriate account control procedures. This position will be a key member of a cross-functional, multi-national, accounting team responsible for critical accounting areas, corporate & business accruals, financial reporting and ad hoc analysis / reporting. This position will have significant interaction with Alexion business leaders, senior accounting management and global accounting teams.

Specifically, we are seeking an individual with the traits listed below:

Principal Responsibilities:

The position and its responsibilities will have an emphasis on North American and U.S. accounting operations while having some global involvement.

Accruals
  • Own end to end process for developing, recording and analyzing critical business accruals (legal, professional fees, audit, compensation, grants, donations, misc. items)
  • Liaise between accounting operations team members, corporate accounting, FP&A, and G&A business owners (HR, Legal, IT) regarding the periodic activity under review for proper determination of U.S. GAAP expense

Accounting & month-end closing responsibilities
  • Journal entries for key areas of responsibility (investments, stock-based compensation, debt, etc.)
  • General ledger account reconciliations
  • Fluctuation analysis
  • Closing task management
  • Adherence to global SOX controls

Internal and external financial analysis & reporting
  • Develop analytics/metrics to facilitate the understanding of changes in key accounts and metrics
  • Assist in preparation of internal and external financial reporting packages

Controls & Compliance
  • Support administration of critical financial systems
  • Prepare analysis supporting compliance activities
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors

Project and ad hoc areas of focus
  • Identify opportunities to reduce the accounting closing process, enhance existing procedures and opportunities to improve the utilization of our financial system tools (ex: automation of accruals)
  • Assist in the drafting of accounting manual policies and standard operating procedures for assigned areas
  • Assist in drafting quarterly and annual government reporting

Qualifications:
  • CPA preferred or with a clear path towards finalizing qualifications
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in public or corporate accounting
  • Experience with SAP, BPC, BW/ BI, VB, Blackline, Crystal Reports a plus
  • Intermediate level with Microsoft Office Products required

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
