Job Description:

The role of the developer is to participate in the estimation process, develop/unit testing, support QA and UAT testing activities, and successfully implement Java-based backend applications and the integration components to support the interfaces between the applications. This individual will perform functional analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, deployment, and monitoring of the software in support of business and technology service lines, in an agile manner.

This individual will become the subject matter expert for the Business Process Management System (BPMS). He will become the lead and ultimately train other team members to support the application.


  • Design, write unit and integration tests, support QA and UAT activities, write and maintain documentation and successfully implement java-based applications and web services

  • Estimating level of effort for specific development components

  • Meets scheduled milestones to ensure project/program objectives are met in a timely fashion and delivers forecasted ROI

  • Work closely with the quality assurance team to address code fixes

  • Develop future enhancements, fixes, and upgrades

  • Provide application support for the business and technology by being on call 24x7 once a week, on rotation

  • Writes maintainable, clean code to meet business, functional, and architectural requirements

  • Practices TDD, test-driven development in an agile environment

  • Support quality practices including governance standards, SDLC methodology, proper documentation, unit testing, and performance testing

  • Maintains open communication and a transparent view into project progress with development team and other stakeholders (PM, Development Manager, etc.)

  • Has experience using the SCRUM/Agile Methodology

  • Support implementation of enhancements and defect resolution for the BPM (Savvion) system

  • Implement tools and processes to enable Level I to manage support tickets (i.e.: unlocking opportunities, adding and removing users from Compass, etc.)


  • Must be able to demonstrate their understanding of Agile

  • Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle

  • Good understanding of OO principals and concepts


  • Candidate must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of recent work experience as a programmer using Java and Groovy

  • Bachelors' degree in computer science or similar focus is required

  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL required

  • Proficient in Java/J2EE

  • Proficient in JSP and Java Standard Tag Libraries (JSTL)

  • Proficient using frameworks such as Spring, and test frameworks such as Spock

  • Proficient with IP Protocols; Internet Web Services and related protocols and standards

  • Proficient in test-driven development

  • Proficient using NT environments

  • Proficient in HTML/CSS/JavaScript

  • Proficient in analysis and design of individual development components

  • Proficient with UNIX (nice to have)

  • Proficient with creating shell scripts (nice to have)
